fyi...I live in MA. I have an honest mechanic here...I had my AC compressor rust out and it was making tons of noise...He told me i had 2 options...For $45 he'll disconnect the busted compressor and clean things up...or I could replace...For ~$400 i can install a use a/c compressor that might fail in 6 months or for $900 he can redo the whole thing...I told him just disconnect it and he was relieved...He couldn't in good conscience do $900 worth of a/c work on a 1999 civic...a large % of it's value...

sorrry about your a/c. my car is in really good condition, redid alot of engine stuff preventively, new cam, water pump, head gasket, yada yada. the air was just not getting as cold. this car has lived in Cali and recent to Texas (hence no connections new in town). i really would like to find that there is not much wrong with a/c (though that may not be so). The mechanic I went to put "2 cans of freon" and shorty after a/c not cooling, blowing hot air, no funky noises. I think nothing major broken at this point...hopeful anyway that if i brought it to someone soon enough, that if this other guy did something wrong, that it could be rectified. i have read on another site that overfilling is not good..i don't know how bad that could be. I don't know what I was thinking when I brought car to be serviced i didn't ask about credentials. I am calling myself stupid about the whole thing. Pretty hot in Texas w/o A/C
