Blower does not work

Hello all.

I have a 98 Civic LX. Recently my blower stopped working at all levels. No air blowing out of the vents at all. The AC does work, but again, no air blowing at any setting.

Then, after a few days, the blower started working again, and each level 1-4 worked fine.

A couple of days after that, when I went to start the car, the blower stopped working again.

This time after a day of no blowing, I removed the blower motor to try to test the motor. But before I actually unplugged it, I turn the ignition on and it was working, so I just reinstalled it.

Now today, one day later, it stopped working again. Is it the motor, the resistor, the control switch, ?? or something else.

Thanks for any help.

I thought I read that if the resistor was not good, it would still work on high speed? I may have misread that, but thanks.

Re: Blower does not work

well first you should take the blower out and test it directly connecting to power and ground. if it comes on, its prolly fine. may also want to open it up and blow all the dust and dirt out.

Re: Blower does not work

When I removed it yesterday, I cleaned it as well as I could.

Can it be the resistor if it does not blow at all?

What about the control switch? If I turned the car off at high blow and restarted the car, still in high blow, would the switch still be open on high? Or does the switch work differntly than that?

Re: Blower does not work

the fan switch controls the blower speed. and it should stay wherever you put it when turning the car back on. technically a bad resistor would still allow the fan to work on max speed, but not always.

Re: Blower does not work

I had a problem like that and it wasn't the resistor. The switch needed to be taken apart and the contacts cleaned. I just sprayed WD40 in the switch and it's been fine ever since.
