99 Civic AC Expansion valve..
replacement.Has anyone done this&know how much of a job it is?also must this also be replaced with a new compressor&dryer,I know it is reccomended, but must it be done?Looking in my Haynes manual,it looks like a bear.
I`m installing a rebuilt tranny,&clutch kit,cv joint shafts&I`ve got my work cut out for me!

Re: 99 Civic AC Expansion valve..
It's kind of a bear but, not too bad considering your obvious skillz. If your compressor went out then, yes, you need to replace it as well. It's one of the places the metal bits from the compressor end up.
Re: 99 Civic AC Expansion valve..
I Thought That`s..what someone would say! When I 1st put a compressor on 2yrs ago,I could hear air trying to get thru expansion valve in dash(original comp locked up& 176K),but after a couple weeks the sound left&it`s worked great. The system with the rebuilt compressor has needed a little gas each year, when under the car removing the tranny,I say the slight oil leak aroung clutch pulley,so if oil leaking, then the gas is also leaking there.
Although the valve needed replaced with the comp(I did replace dryer),I can`t see how that would make the front seal leak,I would have expected a internal failure from floating junk,or reduced cooling.I`ve always felt the 6th gen AC`s to be on the weak side,it takes a while&recirc cabin air in hot weather, and that`s how it`s been since new.
Anyway,Thank`s,Dizz

Re: 99 Civic AC Expansion valve..
true,Civic Ac`s are weak.I a new 93,used 94,and this 99.The 99 is a little better than the 5th gen,but not much.Plan on re-circ in humid weather,where as a Cavalier is much better,at least for the AC!
Maybe not very hot in Japan?
I have found them to last for many years, though.LOL

(I`m gonna try it with the old valve,1st.I`m tired of crawling under this car,for now!)
