O2 sensor 1997 HX manual
O2 sensor 1997 HX manual
I have the CEL and read 41, which is the primary oxygen sensor. Thats the upstream correct?
Where can i buy one for a manual 1997 hx. i looked at autozone and napa, i see that some are up to 300 for manual. Can i use a none manual one? Other places to buy one?
How would i go and replace it? i read you need a special tool, can i do it with standard sockets?

Re: O2 sensor 1997 HX manual
1. Primary O2 sensor is the upstream one.
2. I don't really know if there is a difference in the sensor for different transmissions(auto/manual). I would call Honda and see if they will bite and give you some more info on it. You might get lucky, you might not. Wouldn't hurt to ask.
3. I would just check other local parts stores or look online for vendors maybe via Amazon, or eBay. I don't have any experience with either of those though.
4. You need an O2 sensor adapter to remove the sensor. I'm sure you could go about using a socket, but what from I heard, it's a real pain in the ***. Your local auto stores should sell them. Expect to pay maybe 15 bucks for the piece.

Re: O2 sensor 1997 HX manual
well i couldn't get much information about weather manual or auto made a difference.
i went with a universal o2 sensor from amazon that said it fit my car for both up and downstream.
ill fill you guys in if it removes the CEL when i install it.

Re: O2 sensor 1997 HX manual
so i received the part, and sadly to say it didnt fit into my car. On the amazon website it said it would fit, but it didnt.
for the honda civic hx 1997 it is a special oxygen sensor. it is 5 wires and not 4 perhaps thats why it is more expensive than other submodels.
can someone help in finding primary oxygen sensor for my model.
lowest i found it was for 200 bucks off ebay.

Re: O2 sensor 1997 HX manual
I'd get an OEM one. I had a O2 sensor problem for about 2 years and the Hx is very picky about which ones you use. I think Denso makes the OEM ones. Also there is a TSB out for a short in the wiring going to the ECU that you might want to look up.

Re: O2 sensor 1997 HX manual
i actually couldnt find an OEM denso o2 sensor.
what i did look up was
NGK 24300 was listed as OEM on napa website for $400, but on amazon says it doesnt fit and its $200 there
BSH 13025 $318 on napa, $336 on autozone.
DEN 2345052 $314 napa, $177 on amazon but doesnt fit
ive read to go with the one my car has already, which is labeled with NTK
so im assuming to go with that one, would buying it off amazon be the best option?
what do you guys suggest?

Re: O2 sensor 1997 HX manual
just to update for anyone interested.
i went with the NGK 24300, it did remove the cel, and i havent gone all the way through a full tank to see if my mileage has improved, but from eyeballing it, there is improvement.
i also went with the ngk becuase when i looked at the other manufacturers sites, i did not find a page to determine if the part fit on my car, but the ngk did and i felt confident with the purchase.
