2000 Honda Civic EX burning lots of oil
2000 Honda Civic EX burning lots of oil
i bought this car a month ago. The day after I bought it I changed the oil pan gasket because it was leaking. I changed the oil after replacing the gasket. I just checked my oil yesterday and i was 3 quarts low within one month. I checked the engine and all under the car and everything is bone dry and there is no oil leak.
Obviously it must be burning oil but 3 out of 4 quarts in a month seems like alot?
Car just hit 195,000 miles. engine runs great, no knocks, no ticks, nothing. 5 speed manual.
Please any help is appreciated. thank you.

Have you done a compression test? Worn rings can lead to oil running past the pistons and ends up being burnt during the combustion process. Valve guides and seals could also be worn. Have you checked the condition of the spark plugs? What about the valve cover gasket? Although, with that last one, I'd think it would be very obvious if it were worn.

I have a similar problem. '00 Si, just changed my oil 4 weeks ago. checked it today and the dipstick was dry. It smokes at hi rpm too. I know it doesn't leak, I already took care of those. A guy I work with said he changed the rings in his 99 integra that was doing the same thing and now it doesn't burn anymore, but like you I want to do a bit of research before I go tearing into it. Did you find out anything?
