'97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
'97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
Ok, so I just bought a '97 DX as my first car, and I believe it has power locks. When I click the keyfob, I can hear a fait "click", but not from the doors. The little red light flashes off for a second when this happens. Any idea what is wrong?
Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
Nope. Only buttons are on the keyfob.
EDIT: It also says TRC on the keyfob. Is it stock, or aftermarket?

Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
So the previous owner you think installed the unit without the actuators? Is there perhaps a fuse blown, or should I open up the side panels and check it out?
Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
check for screws if i remember correctly theres like 4 screws
as u remove the speaker grill theres 2 screws
one on the pocket and one at the lock lever where u pulled to open the door
then u pop the panel with a flat head

Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
Ok. I ordered a door panel remover tool to get clips out. Will be here tomorrow. Will try to take it off and see what's up in there. Will update here with pictures.
Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
those clip will break due to age and moist
regardless if you try to be careful
the price you pay for the clip tool removal?
never thought that exist
but anyway u can buy all new clips from any auto store
even ebay sells them like 20 for 3 bucks
i rather just buy new clips cuz they seem to hold more
if you remove all the screws
take a flat head screw driver and pop the panel from the bottom and work your way up
once you got all of the clips to unclip slide the panel up and off it comes
if its stubborn just stare at it, it will eventually fall off

I can remove the door handle. That is the only visible screw I can see. I see that at the bottom, there is the speaker grill/place to put stuff that is a separate piece. I tried going around it, trying to pry it off. Don't want to break anything, but that thing is on there good. Should I just use a bit more force. I can post pictures of what I am talking about if you want.

Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
there are 2 or 3 screws behind the speaker/ grille that need to be removed as well as the screw that holds the door panel to the door. That one is at the armrest/ door pull area.
if you don't have power door lock switches on the doors then your car probably did not come with OEM power door locks.

Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
Ok. Got the panel off. It doesn't look to have any keyless entry system in the doors. Any idea what this aftermarket keyfob even is? Did someone just not finish the job? Thanks. Pictures below.

Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
How would I test the alarm to see if it even works? The red light stays on no matter what. Also, can you use the existing parts and add actuators to make it work?
Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
hit the lock button on the remote u should see the led light blink on picture 6 if it doesnt blink and the light stays on then the alarm is in valet mode, if so locate a switch thats underneath the driver dash or at the kick panel, if u found the switch turn on to ign2
do not start hit the switch then u should see the light doesnt stay on no more
then re arm the car

Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
Ok. Found the switch and held it for a few seconds while in ign2. The red light turned off. Now I can arm it. Still don't know how to disarm it, as when I click the unlock button, it beeps 2x, but then the light remains on, and it goes off. So I just put it back into valet mode for now. So what would I need to see/buy to install aftermarket power locks?
Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
i found this while i was surfing i hope it helps
u dont need the module u can connect the solonoids to ur exisiting alarm
if u locate ur module u see the diagram on the box where it says door locl and unlock
u can buy this and sell the module keep the solonoid but for 30 bucks for 4 solonoids and a module is cheap
Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
Ok, just bought the four solenoids kit. Will let you know when it gets here. I am only 65 miles away from them, so it should be here soon.
Sure I will have questions on how to install it into my existing alarm. Any good tutorials already made? I will make one on taking that door panel off, as it took me a while to figure out.

Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
i have an extra alarm unit where it shows diagram so i can take a pic for you
once the solonoid gets there show me the wires and i show u how to wire them
im good with electronics just not good at installing them

Re: '97 Civic DX, power doors don't work.
Brother, i think you are getting into a project that your aren't going to like. My best suggestion is to remember that the car is a DX and the pain of locking and unlocking the doors by hand will probably be less then the pain of installing actuators that will become useless after that crappy key-less entry dies on you. Sorry, I don't mean to be a bum. I have just removed more aftermarket key-less entry's then i would like to think about.
