Hi,I am new to these forums,and I seem to have a problem,my Civic is a DX 4dr,with a D16Y7 engine,unfortunately,its a auto.I got the car a year ago,it had been sitting in my parents yard for a year,and ever since I started driving it,it has made this metallic sound on acceleration,it sounds like something metallic is rapping up against something,its gotten louder these past few months,it doesn't make the sound when idling,or when the RPMs get high,when you really push the engine it doesn't seem to make the noise.only when lightly accelerating.Could someone please help?

it could be something really simple, have you checked to make sure all the lug nuts are tight?

like on my rims? yeah they are all tight,I removed all the heat shields too,the sounds come from the center left of the hood

Yes, on the rims, if one is loose that's the exact sound made. It could be a broken strut mount.

Ive inspected the struts too,they seem to be fine.also,the car has to reach normal operating temp for the sound to get really loud,as the car gets hotter,the sound gets louder.

check inside the front discs, I have heard of small rocks getting stuck in there causing that sound. You may even have to remove the rotor to get at it.

it only really does it when the engine reaches its normal temp,I highly doubt its the brakes,but I could go take a look to be sure.

hmm well if thats the case I would start looking at the heat sheilds on the exhaust, the main one on the block may have broken a bolt or gotten loose and will rattle when warmed up.

Mine was making similar sound the mechanic said it was pinging, he suggested to use a higher octane.
Try 93 for $10 worth of gas it can't hurt.

if you are having issues with pinging like that scolecite then its carbon buildup in the cylinders or timing/valve issues.

check the rubber donuts that hold your exhaust to the car my car wich is a 4 door civic had a similar problem one of those was broken although it didnt matter what the temp was it just did it all the time when under light load.

I removed most of the heat shields,I was sure to remove the one under the block,I drove it today,and the sound seems worse.

If you have a flip video or some other cheap small camcorder, securely tape it to various locations under your hood while driving and then listen after your done driving. Should help with pinpointing the source of the sound.

could it be the heat shield around the catalytic converter,the one thats right under the header?

my auto civic had that same issue after i did the motor swap and it was actually the dust shield on the bottom of the transmission... check your bolts on that
