Po740 Torque Converter

Hi, newbie here. 97 civic lx AT 105k. Trans was slipping a little, then CEL came on and car wouldn't move in forward or reverse. I have code reader and gave me P0715. Cleared code and drove away. Works fine until light comes on then nothing. From forums I determined options were replacing main speed sensor or performing service bulletin 00-012. Had triple flush and replaced linear solenoid, shifts great but now P0740 and torque converter won't lock up at all. Daily driver 60 miles, light comes on sometimes 10 miles, sometimes 90. I clear light but won't lock up. Did resistance and clicking test on lock up solenoid, and removed to clean but it was spotless. I'm thinking used trans at this point unless somebody knows something

Re: Po740 Torque Converter

well you have read about the issue from what your post outlines my advice would be to replace the trans if you have done this and still are having the same issues, I am not totally familiar with the honda automatics but I am learning more, download the manual in my sig as it has a lot of useful info for you to read on the trans section and testing the trans.

Re: Po740 Torque Converter

Was there any metal debris in the old fluid?

- check all connections and wires, also look for leaks or bad gaskets.
- check for clogged strainer
- check for clogged pump
* if either one is clogged with metal debris I would rebuild or get a another one.
- test or replace pressure control solenoids, shift solenoids, and speed sensors

If all that is fine and still have problems it may be a bad valve which means rebuild or another one.

NOTE: There's a 6th gen PDF manual floating around, try to find and download as it has step-by-step diagnosis.
