'99 Civic EX

My son has a '99 Civic EX and during the last rains in SoCal he punched a hole in his bell housing. It's a 5 speed tranny. Is there a difference in the bell housing's for different models, b,c,d motors?? Don't really know what that means. I've located a bell housing just need to know if they are all the same. Thanks

Re: '99 Civic EX

no they are not the same I am not sure about the differences between the vtec d series trans and the nonvtec d series but I know for sure that the rest do not fit. My advice is to get one that matches the year and model. On the block where the body meets the trans will be a stamp like d16y7 or d16y8 check that and we can advise you better from there.

Re: '99 Civic EX

I found this spec list:

http://www.clubcivic.com/index-vba.php?pageid=specs6

It says the '99 EX is a d16y8. Is this fact? Sorry if this seems obvious.

Same generation VTEC and Non-VTEC D-Series trannies are for the interchangable. I swapped a 8-Valve D15b8 Non-VTEC in a 1994 VX for a JDM D15B VTEC this past summer. Used the same tranny, no issues. Same applies for 7th gen, everything bolts up. Only difference, I believe, are the gear ratios between the DX/LX and EX. As for 6th gens, all interchangable.
