Strange transmission problem
Strange transmission problem
Hi guys,
I drive a '98 Civic Ex 2door coup with about 160,000 miles on it (automatic, not manual). Everything works fine most of the time except that the check engine light turns on every once a while. I noticed that when it's on, I feel jolts when I change gears (from R to D or D to R) until the engine warms up. It shows P0700 - transmission related issue when a friend used the device and he couldn't figure out any more than that. A strange thing I noticed is that the check engine light turns off every time I drive at about 70-80 miles for 20-30 minues or so and I don't feel any jolt so it's not a malfunctioning of the light.
That's how it has been for probably more than 6 months. Can anyone have any clue or what needs to be done ? I have changed ATF every 30,000 miles, not flushing out but just draining.
Thanks in advance for any advice !

Re: Strange transmission problem
Locate the backup fuse and pull it out for at least 5 - 10 minutes. That will reset the computer.
I'm not sure where the backup fuse is located on your car, but on my 1998 Civic LX sedan, it's under the hood right behind the battery in a little fuse panel.
I had similar issue a few weeks ago. Throttle position sensor went out. Replaced. Check engine light still on and transmission still shifting funny. Finally pulled backup fuse to reset computer. No more problems.
You could pull the fuse and reset the computer. See if the check engine light comes back on. Just an idea???
