Is this civic a good deal? (craigslist)
Hi there. I'm a potential used civic owner. I need a reliable cheap car very soon and I came across this craigslist ad.
Can the civic experts here shed some light as to what I would be in store as far as future 'issues' with this 2000 civic?

Note: The car has 300,000 KM!!
Thanks

VIN number check and if possible get a maintenance records from the seller.
Same as any car you buy.
Need more info than what you gave if you serious about the buy

In a 1993, 300,000km might as well be brand new. If the engine has been maintained regularly, this car could could break 500,000 km without breaking a sweat.
Overall, not nearly enough info though.
You need to ask about the condition of the body, suspension, brakes, tires?
If the owner doesn't have service records, you should have it inspected by a mechanic.
If everything comes back clean, I'd jump on this car.

you would really have to check it out to know for sure. if it runs okay for $1k, thats a steal. but dont expect to buy a car like that and not have to spend any money on fixing or tuneups.

no worries, it's not a matter of offense...
but leaving the "k" out does sound very bad, likely they will last only 400 kilometers, not 400,000 kilometers.
in the internet, be careful also with what you heard and what it trully is, somebody could understand it wrong and they will say that you said it.
Some things you should answer only if you have experience, or be clear that you only heard about, so not a first hand experience.
Believe me that i am actually not bashing you, rather giving you advice to survive the internet forums

I've seen the older honda engines go to 400000kms . I can't see my D17 doing it though. There have been members on here that broke the 300k MILE mark. That one there should be good for a long time if you take care of it and it has been taken care of. Those older honda engines are so easy to work on too. A cinch compared to the electronic crap they put in today that makes working on them a nightmare. More room to work in there too, believe it or not.

Not driving the car is sometimes worse than driving it. If your doing short trips in the city its about the worst thing you can do to your car. You want the car to achieve optimal temperature every time you take it out. That might mean doing a circle around the block because the car hasn't heated up yet. IMO. Trying to keep your inner city drives short is a terrible thing to do

Honda is one of the best engine manufactures in the world, thats been proven many times.
A 1986 Civic in Edmonton has 1.5 MILLION Kilometers and is still a DD.
An 8th gen Civic has over 500,000 MILES.
A Honda dealership in Vancouver used to have an Accord with 1 MILLION kilometers.
My Aunts Accord died with 850,000 kilometers, but that was in the BC Interior with extensive daily driving on dirt roads.
Maintain your Civic and you can throw out 8 or 9 years being a possibility, start considering passing it on to your grandkids.
