Cleaning Engine?

I was wanting to clean my engine because it's been getting pretty dirt in the whole compartment,I was wondering if anyone knows what precautions/steps I should take to clean it?
I'm not looking to get it spotless or shiny,I just want to get all the dirt and grime out.

I have a 2006 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan.

Re: Cleaning Engine?

Just make sure you cover all the electrical components before you proceed to do anything. I used a bottle of degreaser and a rough brush and a smaller one for the hard to reach places. It seems you have a much newer Civic than I do, so you may not even have a lot of room. Tons o' plastic. You may just be able to get away with using a light mist of water from a hose and wipe it down.

Got into an accident a month ago going LITERALLY 3 MPH,hit a tailgate and it ripped the entire right front fender off.

Cost 3,500$ to fix too!Thank god for insurance!only paid the 500$ deductable.
