Added Security?
After adding I.C.E. have you invested in a better security system? If you have post what system you have...Im thinking about the Audiovox APS995C with Status Remote...lemme know if you think the investment is worth it or if the OEM system is fine.
I have a 03 Coupe and have the Clifford Arrow 5 installed on it. Its the cheapest Clifford model available (around 250-300) but its a great alarm, a ton better than the OEM (I had it, it was so crappy I complained and got my money back) and its never had a problem.

by oem system meaning you actually have an alarm or just keyless entry. Because every civic i think comes standard with keyless entry and a panic button which is crap. Invest in a real alarm and make sure it comes with the following things included.
-keyless entry
-starter disable
-door trigger (alarm triggers when door is opened but armed)
-shock sensor
those are the main things that an alarm system should come with. Then you can add extra goodies also such as glass sensor, trunk pop, auto window roll down, auto start. just to name a few

Yes, by OEM i mean the added security unit, not simply the keyless entry and panic which is standard with the EX trimline. It was crap, get a Clifford Arrow 5, or if you want to spend more, any of the Concept models are awesome.

Viper 800 ESP, Remote start, transponder (555I), siren with a battery backup, motion sensor for inside for when i leave my windows open, bought for 250, installed myself if anyone knows retail on that stuff, let me know because i got it at dealer cost.
also when i installed it i wired up my own window rollp/rolldown kit (I can write a DIY). basically its 4 relays and some wire to do the front windows (15 bucks total) as opposed to paying the chunk of change for the DEI window kit.
on top of that i wired up another channel to turn my radio on and off even if the car is off.

DEI (company that owns viper) sells a kit to wire into your alarm remote to roll your windows up and down with the remote and charges 70+ dollars for it.
i got 4 relays, and a little bit of wire, and made my own.

first off the OEM system is crap, I wont even waste any more typing explaining why so.
Id say invest in an aftermarket alarm, it should always be your first mod. The BARE MINIMUM you need is:
Keyless entry , only works with power locks though.
DUAL stage shock (not single, dual stage does the warning chirp or if it gets hit hard the alarm just goes off)
Door, hood, & trunk pins . People usually are just happy with door pins, but they do not realize without a hood pin your hood can be pried open and your alarm fuses removed....poof an easy steal for theives.
Self powered siren , if they cut the wires to the siren it still goes off, very important.
Thats it...anything else is just extra money. If youre on a budget just stick with that, if you wanna impress your friends with features then theres always upgrades.
Starter kill - not even necessary with new civics since they have the chip in the key anyways, remote starter kills (mainly clifford) are notorious for malfunctioning from radio wave interference which means your car will not start unless the module is uninstalled from your car and your alarm is reset...cliff notes: STAY AWAY FROM REMOTE STARTER KILL!
Tilt sensor - protect your rims and protect your car from just plain out being towed away by thieves, also lets you know when your tire goes flat before you drive off.
Glass sensor - do people even get these still? Last time i saw one of these installed was like in 92'. They are completely worthless, opt for a SHOCK SENSOR instead.
Proximity/Radar/Motion sensor - annoying if set up too high, people think they are *cool* all of a sudden if their car chirps when people walk by
lease: . As long as its not set to be too sensitive it can scare potential intruders when they are peeking in your windows. Can be combined with an optional window roll up module so when loosers get too close your windows roll up before they can get their greasy mits in your car.
Remote start - Definately handy. YES they do make them specifically for MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS! NO it is NOT ILLEGAL to have one on a manual transmission!
Window roll up/roll down - Rolls windows up when you arm the car, can be set to open the windows fully or to "vent" position after car is armed.
Remote trunk release - Make sure its wired so it DOESNT open when your car is armed. Shops often use cheap motors which often lock up in the open position, which means you wont be able to close your trunk. Make sure it comes with a warrranty.
When it comes down to it, if someone wants your car they will find a way to get it. People dont realize most thefts occur in a matter of seconds and your alarm isnt gonna do sh*t for you. The theif always has the advantage of taking you by surprise. Youre sitting at home on the couch watchin tv scratchin your *****...your car alarm goes off, you look out the window and someones running off with your CD player. Do you think you will catch up? My guess is NO. Alarms are mostly just there to scare away the inexperienced/stupid theives and keep your car from being stolen.
I have THE hands down best most expensive car alarm ever (AvantGuard 4 retailing at about $1000+ fully installed...of course im a clifford dealer so i get the discount and free install
) with EVERY single feature possible on a car alarm, and my car has STILL BEEN STOLEN and my stereo has STILL BEEN RIPPED OFF.
so always remember to have insurance coverage on your ****!

hey CivicBound16, where are u in california? my friend does custom alarms in the east bay area, he charges a little more but he does awesome work. Don't trust the honda system. Another friend of mine has a 01 lx auto and he had his $1200.00 deck stolen from in front of his house. the dudes that jacked it did a great job. I think they worked for the dealership cause the alarm was in program mode and the power locks didnt work. they even took the dask kit and the harness and then cut the wires just right so that another deck could be installed.

by the way, I paid 120 for the 800ESP unit, it was 250 for teh 800esp, a 555I, 515R, 551T, and a motion sensor for inside the car (forgot the model number)
horatio, i'm from the east bay and i'm interested in an alarm. what does he sell? I'm looking into DEI or compustar. something with starter kill, back up battery, remote start, and possiblly tilt sensor and trunk popper. any idea how much that would be?
