Security?
Security?
Is it worth putting a security system in tha civic like VIPER or should I just keep the OEM security sys. I mean if a thief is gonna steal sumthin they're just gonna do it...right? I know tha civic also comes with an immobilizer...but im talkin as far as cds, headunits, changers, etc. Lemme know what yall think
OEM only has that stupid horn thingy. Depends on where you live though. I put money out for a Clifford Matrix cuz my ride has been broken into and had the headunit stolen last summer.
I have the viper alam, works well, but its in combination with the trunk and hood lock which I believe are the most important security addon's to your car. I had the oem alarm, and some one broke into my car, popped oppened the hood, and cut the alarm. Now they could take whatever they wanted and no one would've noticed a thing. The only thing they were able to take was my amp from my trunk, and thats it. However, if I had the hood and trunk lock on before, they couldnt have popped the trunk with out the car keys, or opened the hood to cut the wires without the car keys either. Good thing I always carry around my headunit, or else I would've been out an extra 300$

alarms are ALL in teh install. id reccomend getting a cheapo alarm with a DEI 515R (i THINK thats the model name) siren because its got a built in batery backup. theyd have trouble shutting my alarm off at this point. i recently installed a viper 800 esp (like a week ago). and along with the starter kill which is clutch, ive got 3 sirens in the car, the one under the hood has a built in battery, so regardless if they snip the wire, itll still go off, 1 under the seats, and 1 in teh trunk. annoyingly loud. only reason i got the 800 esp is because i wanted all the toys i could do with extra features.
Yup, IMO its definitely worth it. The OEM alarm is a very basic alarm that just uses the horn (crap). I have a basic alarm (w/ hood, door, trunk pins, starter kill, and dual stage shock sensors), 3 sirens (one in engine, one backup, and an in-car piezo), an alarm paging add-on, a hood luck w/ an additional starter kill, an AutoLock, and my HU is detachable. I know kind of a lot, but my car has been broken into before and I like piece of mind (next I want some sort of hidden camera). If your mainly worried about stolen cd's and HU's, just don't leave your CD's in plain view and get a detachable face that looks pretty OEM or not too flashy. It won't stop everyone, but does help to be incognito for most. Overall though, an alarm tuned down for annoyance is still a must in my book.

so to finally answer your question, is it worth it?
i think it was worth it in MY situation. I live in the city with the highest car theft rate in the country, we drive one of the most stolen cars around, and, i just amass my car with fun and expensive stereo equipment just WAITING to be taken.
you gotta ask yourself, do you need it where you live? do i have things in my car to get stolen?. an alarm wont stop them from taking your car, an alarm will just stop them from taking stuff thats in it.
