question about 3-way sound

hey,
I currently have the 6.5" alpine typeR components installed. I want to upgrade to the Q-forms, but then my alpines wont fit cuz the alpines mount 6.75". now my question is, could I leave the alpine 6.5" in my doors and put the tweeter in the Q-form and then buy some Kicker Resolution R4Cs (4") to put into the q-form too, so that i'd have 3-way system? is that possible or do the kicker and the alpines not match or would i have to go all alpine?

it wouldnt sound good at ALL unless you made new crossovers for it all and tested it out.

i agree, with some crossover work, it could be a great match up.

but without it, I think you will be dissatisfied with your sound.... are you so sure the alpines wont fit?

Its definetly NOT a god idea to mix brands like that. Every manufacturer makes different sounding speakers and when they make components, they make the speakers to compliment each other. Technically, you could make a new Xover network to get flat freq response (or your favorite response) but the speakers probably wont be the same effeciency or similar sounding. Goodluck with your setup tho!!

"where there's a will, there's a way" its possible to fit just about anything with a lil work, lol

I'd sell your speakers on eBay or somethin and buy a new component set that will fit your new application. NOTHING IS FREE, so you'll just have to grin and bare it. Besides, w/o ppl like you to buy more product, I wouldn't have a job

my bet is that the crutchfield people are going by numbers, and not by real world data.....

edit: to back this up, crutchfield says the ID component midwoofers will fit into a wrx. they are both 6.5's, right? doesnt mention teh 1.5 inch mounting depth of the wrx, not the 3 inch mounting depth of the ID midwoofers.....
