hooking up 2 amps
i already have an amp powering 2 12" subs. i want to get another 4 channel amp to power the 4 speakers. i had the amp i have now installed at my friends shop but i was thinking about installing this one. what would i need to install this? would i need to buy another wire kit, like 4 gauge wire, grounding cable, etc..? or could i just somehow link the 2 amps togther, both have preamp outputs. and what kinda of strain would this put on the battery, think it would be to much?

what guage and what amp are you using now... what amp do you plan on getting?
if the guage you have now is thick enough to handle both amps then the install should be very easy...
basially just get a distibution block. hook that up to the battery instead of the amp(you have on there now). and from the distribution block use a power wire to each of the amps. basically the distribution block will allow you to power both amps with the one wire[to battery] instead of hooking up two different power wires[to the battery]
now that you have the power hooked up, just hook up the ground to the new amp(since you already have a ground hooked up to the old)
you also need to send signals to the new amp. if your old amp has RCA outputs then just hook up a rca cable from that old amp to the new amp. if not you can hook it up to the headunit how your old amp is right now.

right now i have a clarus CL800 amp using 4 gauge power wire. i plan on getting a Pioneer GM-X574 amp. but i'm a little confused so basically i would take out the fuse out of the power wire thats going to the battery now, put in the distribution block in its place but do i need to hook up the power wire into the new amp or do i somehow link to my current one? and even though i want to power my full range speakers with my new amp i can still send the signal to it with the RCA plugs from my current amp thats powering the subs?

A basic distribution block, will allow you to input the 4 guage wire that you are currently running from your battery, and will have two or more outputs for let's say 8 guage wire. You'll run an 8 gueage wire from the distribution block to your old amp, and then another 8 guage from the distribution block to your new amp. Their are also ground distribution blocks out there for connecting the ground from both amps to a single grounding point. Make sure if you have a 4 guage power wire from your battery, that you either have atleast 2 8 guage grounds or two 8 guage grounds to a distribution block then a 4 guage to your grounding point. get it? Basically power distribution blocks have fuses, one for each output, and ground distribution blocks are just basically for splitting a large wire (4 guage lets say) into 2 smaller wires (8 guage for example), no fuses for the ground distribution.
As for the rca's, how many outputs does your head unit have? What model is it? Generally most HU's have two or 3 sets......
if your HU has one, two, or three sets of pre-outs, each should be hooked up a different way
let us know about yours and we'll help you out

its a Pioneer DEH-P6400, has "RCA Preouts (x2 pair, Front & Rear or Sub) (2V)". i think i get the distribution block now,i found one by Street Wires. looks like i'll need another wiring kit, cuz it links the 2 power wires and ground wires coming from the amps into the one wire that goes to the battery.it also takes up to a 4 gauge wire which is the size i need. but back to sending signals to the amps, was that how it works... even though i want to power my full range speakers with my new amp i can still send the signal to it with the RCA plugs from my current amp thats powering the subs? or since i have front and rear outputs i can plug it into that? this is the thing thats giving me trouble.
