This just started happening. Since my system is not all the great, it does the job for now. What I have is boston's in front and stock in the back with a 12" sub sealed. Sounds like a weird set up, but ya! Anyway, the last few days my sub stops working at random times. Today when I was driving the sub wasn't working, but when I went to put the cluth in and then hit the gas, my subwoofer makes a popping sound. This Sh*t is real annoying. I don't understand WTF it could be. So i turn to you! Can some one help. Where's the short? Plus my stock 6x9's aren't doing well either. They sound like **** these days. Maybe that adds to the problem.
THaNks
Sounds to me like there is a loose wire on the sub.
Clutch and brake can cause the car to jerk a little hence this is why they seem connected. Whenever the car jerk it can help make or break that loose connection.
As far as the 6x9's you can help them out by matching them to the system.
First big items.
Don't use the loud button !!! It leads to distortion !!!!
Don't crank bass past maybe +2 at most. Your regular speakers can't handle it.
Now try this:
- Turn the sub gain all the way down
- Fade all the way forward so only the fronts play
- Put in a good cd to work the system
- See how loud it goes without distorting, then back off slightly, usually about 85% of max
- This is your new max volume
- Leaving it at this volume, fade in the rears until they sound right or distort, then back off a little
- Now turn up the sub gain until it sounds right or distorts, then back off a little
The key here is now all the speakers will hit their max volume and max out at the same volume level on the deck.
Now go out there and fix it up young grasshopper......

Thats why I ask. I have a JL Audio 12w3 and so far two of the power wires, coming out of the cone, right where they connect to the terminal, have come loose. My sub cuts off and on when one comes loose.
