sub cut out???

I was on a road trip today, about 3 hours and about 1.5 hours into the trip I was listening to music when all of a sudden the sub went away. I turned the music off for a little while and then turned it back on. Still no sub. I turned it off for a little bit more (thinking maybe the amp was just hot) and then finally turned it back on and there was still no sub. I decided to ignore it and just listen to my music anyways because I didn't want to stop and then in the middle of the song I was listening to it all of a sudden came back on and stayed on the rest of the trip. I have an eclipse 12" 4-ohm single voice coil sub (the black cone type) and a Clarion APX200.2 amplifier. I bought the amp from a friend used but it puts out a decent amount of power. It really hot sometimes but he said he's never had it turn off on him and I hadn't had any problems until now. What could have caused it to just quit like that? Thanks!

not enuf info...the amp will have lights on it (I know this is too late now but...) that tell you the status.

NO LED, loose power wire
Green LED (on MOST amps) could be loose connection, either the sub OR internal
RED LED (on MOST amps) Thermal protection

Again, this won't help you now, but if it happens again, DONT turn your car off, but look at the amp and see what the LED's tell you.

Ok, I'm pretty sure it was because of thermal protection, but its wierd because I've never had that problem before and neither did my friend. So I don't understand why it happened out of the blue like that. Thanks anyways though!
