high end HU w/ good display?
high end HU w/ good display?
I'm considering getting an eclipse headunit. Specifically the CD5423 unit is the one I'm mainly looking at. Can you see the displays of these units during the day with our dash? Do any of the new model eclipse tilt downward so that it would be facing us more in our cars? Aside from the 8 Volt Preamp on the 8000 series is there anything else that makes the 8000 series a lot better than the 5423? Thanks!

I had the old eclipse line in my old car and it was the coolest looking and best head unit i've had... plus when i'd hit a bump or somethin on the road it'd never skip. I would suspect the same quality from the new line.
could you see the display in the daylight just fine?
I changed the subject because I started looking at other higher end headunits and being able to see the display is kind of a big deal to me so thats why I wanted to know about others. I was also considering the Nakamichi headunits as well. I have a friend that suggested looking at Rockford Fosgate's headunits because they have gotten a lot better. They don't look too bad either. They have one unit with 3 5V preamps. Anyways, What is a good high quality headunit for around $300 that has Front, rear and sub preamps with at least 4V each and has a good visible display in our cars? Thanks!

I would stray away from Fosgate. Nakamichi, now you're talking. Eclipse and Alpine units are great for what you're looking for as well. I know for a fact the Alpines work great during the day.
dups the alpine i just mentioned has all that. its an mp3 player. currently around 230 shipped on ebay. only bad thing is that (at least in my case) you cant read the display during the day.. though SUPERB quality parts used. looks like a million bucks.
So what about the rockford units? I've searched on other forums and I'm hearing mixed reviews. I really like the look though and the specs on paper look really good for this unit:

Alright, sorry to keep posting about various headunits but after lots of looking I think I would either like to get the Nakamichi CD-45Z or the Clarion HX-D10. I guess the main deciding factor is if you can see the displays in the daytime or not? I think I'm probably leaning more towards the clarion just because of some features that I would like, and its cheaper. But the display has to be visible or else I gotta find something else. Thanks!
Alpines are horrible during the day, night, in a boat, in a plane, with green eggs and ham and so on. Alpines had the 2nd highest complaint percentage for headunits at my shop (Sony was #1). The ones I've seen in our cars really create visual problems and one of the main feedbacks we got from them are that they skip during hard bass notes (not just from shaking) but the laser itself would seem to lose power and cause skips.. atleast thats what my co-worker told me after taking apart a unit. Go with pioneer or eclipse for headunits in our cars.. as long as we have that stupid upward angled dash with HU's being mounted barely at eye level then one of those are your best bets visually (pioneers are beautiful at nights) and playback for both is very dependable.. good luck!
