I am going to make a custom amp rack that sits in half of my trunk so I can still fold down part of my seats and all that... welll anyway I was wondering do you think it would be best to make a cardboard template first or just measure twice and cut once...how do the professionals here do it?

It really depends what your plan is. If it involves contours to the vehicle, then cardboard is the easiest way to go. Otherwise, I would just measure and cut.
