Hey everyone, this may seem like a different question when it comes to fixing subwoofers, but here goes. The other day, one of the negative wires that connects to the terminal in which the amp wires connect to the sub, broke. I have a JL Audio 12w3. Now, I had to solder the wire back so my JL 12w3 would work again. The solder unfortunately makes the wire alot less flexible, and it needs to move with the cone. As a result, the wire touches the cone when the sub is playing and makes a very loud vibrating noise. Is there anyway to fix this problem? I was looking at my JL XR 6.5" woofer today and I noticed that the wire itself was stuck to the cone with some adhesive so it is forced to move with the cone. I don't know what that has to do with anything, but if you all could help me, id appreciate it.
Unfortunatly I don't think theres going to be anything that you can do. You have to be very careful if you solder the tinsel leads on your subs back on because once the solder wicks up thru the tinsel lead your pretty much out of luck. The only thing you could try which i honestly dont think is going to work would be a solder wick. You can get one from radio shack pretty cheap. Its just really fine braided wire but its normally used when pulled solder from a circuit board and not wire. Its only a couple $, otherwise your stuck with solid tinsels and I dont think the tinsel leads are going to be long enough to attach to the cone.
