Here's the situation.... I'm a college student and live on campus. I really want to install an lcd screen in my car, but I'm afraid of it being stolen, since that's what some people around here like to do. EVERYONE of my friends here said that there is 99% chance that if I'm seen with a lcd in my car either my system will get ripped off, or the Summummabitches will take the whole car (Yes, I do have an alarm....but in the ghetto car alarms go off every 5 minutes). Where would you suggest on creating a stealth lcd install? Btw: I want to do something custom, so getting a flip out screen with detachable face is out the question (and out of my budget).
Some Suggestions that I have already heard:
1) mount lcd in visor: (drawback- If someone sees it they can easily smash the window and rip it out in under 30 sec.)
2) get a detachable: (drawback- Usually looks tacky...I want the screen to be integrated and flow with the car's interior as much as possible-if possible).
P.S. - I hate folks that steal!!!

Sounds like you have a little delima but you could cut out a panel in the dash and install it 1/4 inch into the dash and keep the dash peice you cut out to make a "door" to go over the LCD when your not there, it could look nice with thought and work, I don't know if it would work, just an idea

What year civ do you have? In my 01, i was planning on glassing one into the panel that the cigarette lighter is in. Then buy another panel (they're only like $12) so that i can swap em out. Going back and forth to work i really have no need for a monitor, but when i go to shows id really like to have one. If you have a newer civic though, it probably wont work. On a newer one, you could move your radio down where your 12 v+ outlet is then put the monitor where the radio was, then take the face off your factory radio and the door below it (assuming its not just a pocket) and make a false panel to pop on when you are not using it.

l'm in the same boat
but what l came up with
was move the deck where
the 12v adapter is and put the
screen in the upper console
but
put it a little back
make a plastic peice that
would go infront of it
so when ur watching the lcd
adn when ur out
u put the plastic peice
back in front of it
