type-r's on legacy

i just got a good deal on two 12in alpine type-r subs, they are the 1241, dual 4ohms voice coil types. my friend gave me his legacy amp its a LA895 bridged at 600w x2 and i think its not hitting very hard at all. its wired right now in series i believe and running on 8ohms each sub. im kinda new on audio stuff but isnt this 600w supposed to be pretty strong? they seems weaker than my friends 400w amp on a single audiobahn.
what do yall think? i need a new amp? if so what type/ wattage would be best?

If you are running at 8ohm, that amp is most likely putting out 150x2 watts. I would guess that 600 watts is rated at a 2ohm load. Try wiring them for a 2ohm load = negative to negative to the terminal, and positive to positive to the terminal. If you visit http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wiringwizard/ it will give you all the wiring options available for your subs. If you are wiring the subs individually, just enter that you have 1. If you want to wire them together, then enter that you have 2. Then put in dual voice coil 4 OHM x 2.

im guessing its a 4 channel amp, if bridged its 600x2. running at 8 ohms would probably make it 300 rms per woofer.

loudness is all install dependant, that includes tuning. lemme tell you a story:

guy brings in a ford F-250 to our shop. amp's broken. buys the earthquake D2 form us to upgrade frmo his old killowatt amp, and when we get in there to fix his wiring, we realized the guy had the gain all the way up on the amp, all teh bass boosts up, LOUD on on teh deck, running superbass, and was running the radio at volume 6 or so.

naturally, you can imagine how we know if he liked it then, now with twice the power and prpertuning he would go nuts. you wouldnt believe the noise this car made after we got in there. its a ****ign concrete building and **** was rattling on teh other side, and everywhere in between, you could hear it across the darn parking lot, and it was pulled into a 5 car garage!

id try tuning yoru stereo first. if that doesnt help, check the system design. is the box facing a less desireable way? is the box a less than desireable size?

if no tuning/install change wont help,. realize they cna take over a killowatt rms, and as such, the efficiency will suffer a bit. if it cna handle 1000 rms, surely 300 rms wont push it as hard as the woofer COULD hit....

so, seriously, your stereo will only be as loud as the TIME, as well as the money, you are willing to put in it

thx for the help guys, i give up on the crappy legacy amp. it doesnt even label the rms ratings, which is actually 100w rms x4. 1200w peak. lame.
well.. today i decided to rewire my subs on parallel mode to run 2ohms to each sub. i then wired only one channel on the amp, to each sub, since i cant do it any other way. this is actually like 100w rms, 300w peak. weak stuff. well guess what it sounds better than the bridged way hahah..
anyways i think im going to get a rockford fosgate 550s amp to run 275w rms x2 at 2ohms. its within my budget so does that sound like a good choice?
