Arrow Another, What subs should go with this Amp Question??

I have a friend that has an amp I am prob gonna buy from him. It is a JL Audio 500/1. I have been out of the seen for a while, not sure if this is a good amp or not. But i could prob get it pretty cheap (under 300).

People with knowledge of this amp, what kind of speakers should i be looking at?
2 Ohm,, 4 Ohm,,, DVC? I like the MTX 8000 or the JL line, or the Fosgate line. What is the most powerful speaker i can put in their that this amp would do well with?

also, (newb question),, if i was to go buy an LCD screen, is their anything special to look for? I would like to just get an LCD ,, and put in my PS2 to play the DVD's. Anything special about that? is it,, wire from the radio, to the lcd, then to the PS2?

thanks

That JL amp is a great unit, it's 500 watts rms from 1.5 to 4 ohms. You can hook up just about any sub for 500 watts.

For the subs, you should go get whatever sounds good to you. Do you plan on having 1 or more subs?

I'd connect the LCD directly to the PS2, then you can connect the PS2 to the Auxiliary input, or you can get an FM modulator if you really want (it won't sound as good). I think as long as the LCD has RCA inputs, you'll be fine.

I would go with either two W3v2's, one W6v2, one Eclipse Aluminum, two Diamond M3's or one Diamond M6.......those are some options to look into. Another popular choice on here are Adire Audio products, I havent actually heard them though, so I can't make a recomendation. IDQ also comes highly recomended, but again, I have no personal experience with them

so,, would this setup (amp 500/1) sound better pushing one 12w6v2,,, one 10 or 12w7,,,, or two 12w3v2's? I wouldnt mind going with only one speaker. but i want it to be a powerful one. Would i see a big diff from say two 12w3v2's and one 12w6v2 or a 12w7? If not i would rather just go with one powerful speaker.....thanks

It's enough for a 10, the 10 asks for 500 WRMS You would be better off with a 12W6 though....same SQ as the 12W7, but slightly less SPL for half the price.

12w7 is rated at 750 but JL reccomends 1000, those w7's do WELL in high powered situations. warranty on 13.5 isnt even voided unless you break 2 kw

Yeah, that was what I forgot to mention....the 12W6 only needs 400 watts I think....versus the 1000 that the W7 needs. And yes, the 10W7 is rated at 500, it runs decently at 500, but it needs about 800 to really shine.

THey have very similar sound, however for your application, the W6v2 will play louder because of the power you have. A 10W7 needs about 800 watts to really shine and play to it's full potential, whereas a 12W6v2 will be perfectly matched with your 500/1. Now if you had 1000 watts to play with, thats a whole different story.

since you are looking for loud, (according to the first post) I would eiter go with a pair of 12w3v2's or a pair of 15w0's.

that will maximize your bass/dollar ratio with that amplifier. chances are, you wont hear the difference between any of them assuming you give them all the proper install.
