need help with building enclosure
ok, i was searching around online on how to build an enclosure, and i dont understand half of the stuff ppl are saying. i have 2 eclipse 12" titaniums, and i think im gonna go with just a normal sealed enclosure. can sumone help me with the all the things i need to kno b4 i build an enclosure? thanks a lot
ill assume they really are titaniums (cause im betting they are aluminums) but youll want 1 inch MDF for those beasts. if you can cut straight or have a power sander, youll need wood glue, if you can't, youll need liquid nails (prefer is a better word). after assembling the box, with a combination glue and screw, youll run some silicone on teh inside seam of the box then cover it in carpet. youll need stretchy carpet liek trunkliner and a spray adhesive or brush on contact cement.
with the completed box you cna cut out a hole for the terminal plate or just drill a hole and run wires through, then reseal the hole. then wire up and install teh woofers and you jsut built your self a box!

if i were you, you said you couldnt quite afford the amount of power to move a titanium, I'd go ported. More efficient and gets louder for the amount of power you give it.

care to rephrase, lud? =p
id take jeffs comment nto consideration too befor eyou tell him to build an 8th order reflex bandpass plexi covered slot ported ultra-superduper efficient enclosure, just cause its more efficient....

yeah, typoed the hell out of that one. Ported at a standard flat tuning usually gives you a 3 db or so increase in efficiency. in other words. get 2 identical subs, 2 identical amps, in the identical car. One is ported, one is sealed, in theory, the ported will be louder. BUT, ported will be a bigger box.
no, teh answer is "but ported is a more complicated box" and going back to what jeff said, it might be best to go simple here. if that means selaed, so be it. if that means freeair, so be it. if that means throwing money at a shop to make it work, so be it.
but i would worry that ported would be too complicated, as a beginner box...
best thing to do would PROBABLY get some cheap particleboard and try making a couple sealed boxes for practice, cause 1 inch mdf is damn near impossible to work with, and im not sure .75 mdf would be enough to ensure zero flex
