Is Bridging this amp possible?
i was told that bridging my JL Audio Monoblock 500/1 was not possible by first the audio shop i bought it at and then by a couple more people, i am wondering if this is true? i haven't tried it yet, but it seems that it would be bridgable. if so, what would my watts jump to roughly? my speaker can handle up to 1500, and they told me if i blowed it they would give me another and a second for free, as long as i use the rated wattage for it, and nothing over that. i was not going to attempt it, but i was curious when they said this bout the amp.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you have a 1 channel mono amp. you can't bridge 1 channel. When you bridge you connect the power from multiple channels to create one big output. But like I said, I might be wrong. But your amp has only 1 left and 1 right channel and they put out the power advertised.
It's a monobloc amp...1 channel. It may look bridgeable to you because there are 2 positive and 2 negative terminals for your subs....but thats for if you had one of those boxes where there are two terminals for 2 subs.
The whole concept of the mono block amp is that its already bridged internally. You send it left and right channels and the output is a mono signal. If you take apart most monoblock amps you will see that both positives connect together on the board and both negatives connect together on the board. It doesnt matter what combination of + and - you use, it all goes to the same place.
