Need help with a friends ICE setup
My friend just got an 01 Passat and wants me to hook up his system. My question is do I need to bypass the factory amp if I'm just changing the HU? He doesn't want to amp it or change the speakers because he likes his Monsoon system.
Can I just use a wiring harness or do I have to cut the wires after the amp as far as the speakers go. I'm guessing the HU thats going in is no more than 50 Watts per channel, peak, but I have no Idea what his stock system puts out.
Any help would be appreciated.

The way I thought the monsoon system worked was the deck puts out a low level signal to the amp .... then the amp outputs a high power signal.
To get an aftermarket system to work I would assume you need to bypass the amp or just hook up the RCAs to the inputs of the monsoon amp.

i highly doubt the monsoon amp has RCA inputs. Also the fact that it wouldn't have a gain **** either. Basically, he either takes the whole sound system, or none of it.
I wasn't saying it had RCA inputs .... but thats the type of signal it would require to drive it.
Splicing wires, testing voltages, and some handywork would be involved.
Thats what we did for a similar system in a 03 Grand Am. The deck was outputting about an 8v signal (like RCAs) to the amp, then the amp would output the higher power to the speakers.
