Question Speaker Wiring???

Hey everyone, first off I don't have my amplifier to connect my JL Audio XR component set up yet, so I was just thinking until I get it, I can just connect my new component set up to the HU directly. Just wanted to know if all I have to do is splice into the stock wires and connect them to my new speakers? Also, when I take off the tweeter pod, there is a red and black wire, which i am assuming is the same color for the 6.5" speakers. Is it red-positive, black-negative? Thanks!

You can run it off your HU, however you won't be connecting the speaker wires from the HU directly to the speakers themselves. All you'd need to do is wire the speaker from the HU into the supplied crossover. And run speaker wire from the crossover to the woofer and tweeter. I would reccomend using at least 16 guage wiring from the crossover to the woofer and tweeter. And when you get an amp to run a minimum of 16 guage wire into the crossovers.

My memory fails me and I can't tell ya which speaker wire is what because I never needed to know.

Cheers

I don't know if this is really on the same subject, but I just installed a new head unit and 4 new 6-1/2s and could not get the stock speaker wires to work. Honda has some kind of inline crossover or something that was screwing everything up. I could get any three speakers to work but when I hooked up the fourth the whole system made no sound. and the speaker wires that come out in the dash are different colored then the ones attached to the back of the speakers. I ended up running new thicker guaged speaker wires directly from the HU to the new speakers. Now no problems/ better sound and I can play my MP3's.
