Shopping For Amps????

Hey everyone, tomorrow im going to go shop for amplifiers in a place in houston that sells nothing but car audio stuff. I need a good amp to power my JL Audio XR component set and I am not sure what power rating I should look for in a 2-ch amp, (75x2, 150wX2....). I need a decent amp that will cost less than $200, this place is alot cheaper since they are wholesellers. Could you all please help me with this power rating issue and maybe possibly some recommendations for amps that are in my price range that have a pretty good power rating? Thanks!

it always sucks to get an amp and then want more power... get the best you can bring yourself to buy. i.e. most power. or buy one that is "underrated". but 100RMS should be enough to keep you happy. MRV-T320 or 420 would be good alpine choices, get the kenwood 729 (or 829 is same thing), or thunder 502 or 342 by mtx.

best way to make an amp better is just to turn the gain down. even a cheap amp will "sound" good if the gain is in the basement. so get more power than you need and you'll be fine.

Don't skimp on the amp! next to the deck your amp is the biggest place to lose sound quality.
The biggest two channel Alpine you can afford would be my recomendation.
just My 2 cents

actually, your speakers more than anything else define what kind of sound you have. They are #1 most important piece of equipment not to skimp on!

as to an amplifier, a 50x2 clean amp will sound better and get louder than a 100x2 dirty amplifier (unless you are playing distortion through teh speakers, of course)

as to limits, you can run hose XR's off deck power and be fine, so say 25x2 is the lower limit? and as far as max power, people have had 200x2 RMS amplifiers on XR's and loved it, so say 200 rms per channel your upper!

your most ideal amplifier will be a clean 200x2 amplifier, unless you cant keep your hands off that gain, in which case, 100x2 would probably be best.

but clean is a higher priority than amount of power! and a high quality 50x2 amplifier would capture more of my interest than a 200x6 rms dirty amplifier ever would.
