Anyone Used Eclipse Commander?

Has anyone used the infamous Eclipse Commander? It is sold as a voice control unit for your head-unit and navigation (9002 or 90030), and a GPS receiver for your head-unit (9902). Does it work well? Will it keep me from getting lost when I need it? Will it understand my voice with the slightest of music on? If no one else has it, doesn't it sound cool?

One of my friends had the eclipse commander in his car several years ago, back when he had a car......It didn't work too good at all, took him a while at times to recognize his voice, wouldn't give directions very well. We were going to school in daytona beach, asked the navigator to find us a fast food restaurant that was closest to our location, and it gave us directions to a fast food chicken restaurant in louisiana as the nearest location.

I've been told that they have since then updated the software for voice recognition and for the way it is used but i have not seen anybody use it since the update so no way to know for sure. if you get a unit off of ebay or from somebody used then you may be getting an older version so make sure you check it out first. Ask an install shop that sells eclipse and see if they can refer you to somebody they have installed the unit for would be my suggestion, hope this helps.

The features are pretty cool though, when they work of course. The nicest feature i thought was the hands free phone feature, you just need certain models of nokia phones, you can talk through the navigator and hear people through your speakers......you can say......"navigator.....dial....T...O....M" and it will call the person in your phone that's listed under the name tom.
