when i hear of kicker, i don't think of SQ (SPL yes, SQ not so much). alpine type r (abt. 1cu. ft) or infinity perfect (again 1 cu. ft) might be better SQ choices in that price range, and they also have smaller box sizes.

Crossfire p1 12" is also another great choice for sound quality.

I had a good system ...... last summer I decided I was sick of it and wanted my trunk space back.

I went w/ a Kicker 400.1 and a single Eclipse Aluminum 12" ....... I am in love.

Take a look at my pics to get an idea about how much space I have.

The Kicker amp is running full gain since day 1 without any problems. Couldn't be better.

I didn't hook up the remote. My deck has RCA sub outs with +/-12db crossed over at either 50/80/125Hz. I just use that.

There is no box behind my sub. Actually what you see it the back part of my amp board. Two boards in the shape of a inverted 'V' w/ the wires in the middle.

if a little SQ, maybe a JL 12w3v2 (or 2) with a 250/1 or a 500/1?
if a little more SQ, maybe a JL 12w6v2 (or 2) with a 500/1?
if a lot of SQ, maybe a JL 12W7 with a 1000/1?
once ya go JL, ya never go back

i'm all about SQ too... i've heard the jlw3v2 with about 200 behind it, sounds pretty good, but a bit on the $$$ side... just last week i went and listend to an Eclipse Aluminum and Diamond m5... both sound REALLY nice and clear, and not too bad on the pricing side... but that's just my .02.... just like everyone says around here though, go listen to some different subs and you'll find the one you like the best... take in a cd that you know how YOU like it to sound, play it at all different levels... that was the only way i could tell the difference, but once i found the one i liked (Diamond M5), i could pick it out from all the others... go M5 over L7. better SQ for your money. better tell you to get a shiva if you want SQ for money before someone else does . great excursion on those too. good subs unless you want one that looks sexy
