wiring cap

i have a lightling strike 1.0f cap, got it used, no other hardware accessory, just want to make sure i do everything right before i shock myself or damage my system, i have only 1 amp, so i just connect the battery wire to the positive of cap and than negative of cap to the car chassis?do i need extra hardware to connect the wire to amp or i can use the same point that connect battery to cap to wire up the amp?

it would help alot if anybody have a pic of a single cap and a single amp wired up

thanx

battery connects to top of cap, as does a wire that goes to your amp, on that plus terminal. and yes you ground the - end of the cap to the chassis. be sure to ground it first, btw. also put a resistor of some sort in between the battery wire and the + of the cap when you first charge it. a DC light works good, since the light will get dim as the cap charges. when the light gets fairly dim, or after about a minute, you can connect the battery wire directly to the cap. it should only take a few seconds to charge the cap, but a minute is a saftey measure.

no remote to cap, technically a cap is always on, but there is very little internal resistance so hardly any power is used by it, don't worry about it draining your battery.

Then why are there connectors for the remote turn on lead on caps?

your cap should have a little screw that says remote or rem. you can terminate the remote wire with a spade connector and slip it under that screw. the remote turn on wire sends +12 volts when the car is switched on. all devices in your system that have a REM connection need to be connected to either the headunit or the cigarette lighter. i choose the lighter because its easy to fry your headunit when you connect too many devices to the REM wire of your headunit.

Yes, use the same ground point for sure. For the remote wire, I just split mine right before the amp and butt connected/E-taped two additional wires on too it(one to go to the cap, and one to go to the second amp...so three wires total).

check that all connections are tight and secure, espeically ground. and then bust out your DMM and make sure the wire connected to REM is showing +12 volts when the car is on
