what ! i have used burned cd's from memorex, hp, sony to the no name cheap brands they all work perfectly with my stock system

the title and the body of the post says "CD-RW" your thinking about plain cd-r's those will work in just about anything.

Actually I just used a Imation CD-RW in my stock head unit on the way to work this morning.

which program did you use? and did you finalize the session in order for it to work?

I used EZ CD Creator 5 Platinum Edition, and yes I finalized it, and I just erased the disc and re-wrote songs to it to make sure that it kept it RW use. And I went back out to the car and it played it again, I'm just glad I have a brand new Clarion sitting at home getting installed tonight so I can have bass again.
