installing cd reciever

i have a 2001 civic lx coupe with the cassette reciever. i'd like to swap it out with a cd reciever. so far i am going to get my cd reciever from crutchfield.com, they include the adapters free. how hard is it to swap out the reciever and how long would it take? crutchfield sends instructions for the civic, are they any good? is there a website showing the process? i never installed/removed a car stereo before but it's just screws and plugs, right?

I swapped headunits on my girl's 2001 Civic Lx, it isn't as easy as it looks, you do have to take the whole center console off and it's a little pain but with good instructions, you should be able to figure it out.

dont buy from crutchfield, they charge way too much...
use these instructions DIY headunit
it's really easy. your also going to need the wiring adapter(so you dont have to cut your stock harness) and a dash kit. they run about $15 each..
just pop out some screws and some panel, twist/crimp the wires together and your done.. should take no more then like 3 hours.. i think took me like 2 hours the first time cause i was being extra careful, now it only takes me like 30 min the most...

It isn't hard at all, even if people say it is. I did it in my EX and it took about two hours at most. You don't have to take the whole center console out to remove the HU mount bracket with the cd player, like everyone says. All you need to remove is the panel right above the center dash with the accessory port. Then all you have to do is remove those two screws holding the mount bracket to the rest of the frame of the car, push the mount bracket forward to pop the bracket out with the cd player and the whole front panel around the cd player. There are several clips holding the front face plate in so you will have to use some force in pushing the bracket out from the inside of the dash after those two screws are removed. Don't try to remove it by pulling at the face plate. It will easily warp and will look bad when you reinstall everything. After that, all you need to do is solder the harness to the wires on the back of your new HU, which you need to match up carefully; you won't be using every single wire coming off the harness, the harness package as well as the HU instructions should show which wires get soldered to which, compare both just to make sure. Getting the old HU out of the front plate and installing the new one is pretty simple and self explanatory. Hope all this helps.

{Alot of people get confused by all this terminology and don't know what is what so ill explain it just in case. The CD player is screwed into a metal bracket, as well as the extra storage slot under it. This bracket is covered by the faceplate which is mounted around the cd player and storage slot. This bracket with the cd player, etc is held in by the two screws that need to be taken out. The metal bar that the head of these two screws comes in contact with is not the bar that you push forward to remove the cd player bracket, you push another metal piece right above it, which is the bracket, and you have to do it kind of hard to remove it.}
