Is this too complicated?

Ok... This is gonna be the box for one 15" Kicker SoloBaric (1998 model, so its round.) Its the right amount of interior space. But what I need to know is if this is too complicated. I don't know much about stereo stuff, but my dad brought up the idea of this might affect the sound by acting like three seperate areas. Will this negatively affect the SQ/SPL? I'm not too worried about SPL coz I'm not gonna go crazy with this. I just don't want it to sound bad. Also, should I stuff the box? I've read it sort of tricks the sub into thinking its in a larger box than it really is.

Edit: This is obviously just the idea of the box. I at least know not to make it out of cardboard. 3/4" MDF will work fine, right?

ChemicalBoom is an unknown quantity at this point
It'll work just fine. It's only too complicated if you aren't willing to put in the time. It will be a lot
of angles to cut. make sure you air tight that sucker too! 3/4" is my fave to use. Just don't go smaller.
What are you going to cover the box with?

Edit: Is that box going to be deep enough for the magnet? you may want to go deeper

For the most part shape of a box doesn't affect anything.

Internal volume is the biggest issue that you need to watch.

When calculating volume .... be sure to take out the internal volume of the speaker (the air the speaker itself displaces).

Also remember for manual calculations that to find airspace use the INSIDE dimensions ...... it makes a huge difference.

Small example.
- Box you need is 1.0 cu ft. ....... 12" x 12" x 12" = 1728 cu in needed.
- So you make a box 1ft square ..... that is very bad .... why?
- 3/4" MDF used so the internal volume is really 10.5 x 10.5 x 10.5 = 1157 cu in
- now remove the airspace the magnet sucks up 1157 - 223 = 934 cu in

Result is really a box with outside dimensions of 1 cu ft .... but what the speaker gets is really almost 0.5 cu ft. One-half of what you need ..... 934 cu in vs 1728 cu in.

Simple mistake that could end up making the sub sound like real *** .......

Thanks Joe! I've figured it up to be the required internal space, I just needed to know if the semi-odd shape of the box would affect anything.

It will be fine .......

Complicated shape ..... look at nOrh home speakers: http://www.norh.com/products/norh9/index.html

Basically the idea is they carve them out of MARBLE or WOOD into weird shapes w/ no parallel surfaces. These two things tame down resonant freqs quite a bit from what they say. These get great reviews (if you can get over the looks). Its a love or hate relationship thats for sure.
