2 amps to choose from
there are 2 amps that I'm looking at that fit my price range exactly.
Kenwood KAC-629s 2/1-Channel Car Amplifier
MTX T4122 2/1 Channel Car Amplifier
I'm gonna be running only the front speakers off the amp, and am getting Infinity 605CS 6" Speakers.
I really don't understand the different in specs, so any advice is appreciated.
Currently have the Kenwood eXcelon X859, and will be running my back speakers off this.

I have owned both Kenwood and MTX 4-channel amps (I currently have the MTX 4244 in my car powering my front speakers), and i think that there are Pro and Cons with both.
Kenwoods tend to have more features and mine lasted forever (8+ years, and my gf uses it now, but one of the rear RCAs is out). I also used another one last year, but I ended up returning it because it was not enough power for my subs. I think that Kenwoods are pretty accurate in terms of their power ratings
MTXs are usually WAY underated in terms of power, but they usually do not have as many features as Kenwood.
Both companies make good low cost amps, and IMO you can not go wrong with either
I would go with the features that you want, and maybe with the one that you think looks better

Cool! Thanks for all the info! From what I've read, both are just as good. So now, all I have to decided on is looks or size. The kenwood is C$159, and the MTX is C$169.
I don't want to mount the amp on my back seats, so I'm gonna put it where the spare tire is, inside the spare rim. I'm gonna DIY a board that the amp can sit on that fits into the spare rim.
Only question is whether the amp will overheat. in that confirm space. any idea?

if teh amp is prone to overheat, it wont matter whether you wrap it in bubble wrap, or have it bolted to the side of the box. itll heat up.
only active cooling will help overheat.
dont worry about heat till its a problem. like they say, if it aint broke dont fix it, yes?

i've checked and the mtx will fit perfectly under the mat in the trunk! the space in front of the spare. i'm gonna build a board and fix it up in there, out of sight. i sometimes need to put my back seats down, so mounting on back seat is not good. i'll post some DIY measurements when i'm done, if anyone is interested.
