what should my friend get?
Hey,
my friend has $400 that he wants to spend on speakers and amps. So he wanted to know what kind of speakers and amps he should get. He's got a 2002 civic coupe. What would he be able to afford? he'd rather have power than clarity, though he doesn't want bad sound
thx

and, if you're not going to help, then just... uhhhh... dont reply to threads. I'm here to learn things, not to get put down by someone who talks to 15 year olds about sex and who spends his days searching around the internet for nude christina aguilera pictures. maybe i'll just post another one of these to make you go insane. perhaps then you will stop bagging on newbs like me.. for speakers, something with a really high powerhandling. rockford fosgate fanatic speakers come to mind, as do JL's upper line, and the HCCA line, although that one is out of your pricerange.
then youd sink the rest of the money into amplifers.
do you happen to know anyone whom works at best buy? we did a soundstage from best buy for ~ $250, but only because he worked there and got everything on discount (which is INSANE< by the way)
rockford fanatic P, $89
sony 150x2 amp (the one that says 760 on teh case) $150
then wires and such.
If you go this route, the midwoofers can handle crazy power and get super loud. but the tweets will pop real quick. but you said he had $400 to spend, so he'll have saved that money to buy a pair of replacement tweeters, you can get like a pair to share the power, if you wish.
crossover might pop too, after time, but you can get those fomr parts express for $15 each, if that happens. its really the woofer that would be advantageous.
this is by far not the only option, but if you are looking to buy retail merchandise, then you can save a ton of money by going the best buy route, assuming you know someone whom works there. the PSP doesnt hurt either, seeing as its only like $4, and if anything breaks its a free replacement. a good example of how inexpensive a loud stereo can be.

How about infinity reference 605cs? they see to be able to handle alot of power and they're not too pricey. on yahoo they run for around $120 almost same as the rockfords. but then infinity claims that they're cones are pretty large (mounting depth=2-1/16"); would they still fit into the civic's doors without major modifications?
in his post, he said that they got a dicount from someone that worked at best buy.
will he be installing himself? if he doesn't have the time to go listen to some speakers, i dont' see how he's going to have time to install them, then you'd have to factor in the price of installation

Boston acoustics really sound great but it will take dang near all of that $400. I think if he's gonna spend that much money on some stereo equipment he really should make the time to check it out his self. He may share different opinions then some of us. IMO
