People with Pioneer 8400

hey,
i just ordered the pioneer 8400 and i was just wondering if it would be possible to
install the head unit into the area where the cigerette lighter is located.

so my question is, is it possible to install it there without any custom fabrication required?
i want to put it there so i can install the lcd screen onto the former headunit area.

if you can pull it off, id say you had some massive skill.... soooo many motors and automation and stuff like that on our headunit that it gets quite hard.

WITHOUT custom fabrication? I don't believe it can be done. At the very least, a new set of mouting brackets would need to be made (assuming you leave the cigarette lighter panel off). If you wanted to flush it in for a clean look, you'd at least have to grind an opening in the panel or fabricate one from fiberglass and wood baffles. There are no kits that I am aware of that allow you to do such an install. If you can pull it off, you'd be a hero. A lot of people would probably like to do the same thing. Be sure to take lots of pictures a post a DIY when you're done.

Good luck!

i measured my head unit which turns out to be approximately 6.5 inchs in length...

then i measured the length of the area where the cigarette lighter is which measures
out to be 6 inches in length....

so what i'm thinking now is to mold it out half an inch..... .25 on the left side and .25 on the
right side....

Mounting depth is limited behind that space, dont just take the depth of unit as an accurate number. I would say with the 8400 / 840 unit that your probably not going to want to install there. Best thing to do is custom fabricate a simple dash plate for the stock location, but install in the lower of the 2 din slots, and buy a simple motorized 7" in dash screen and mount in the upper din slot. that way the 8400 will open downward, and the screen will open upwards.
