It's not the size of the sub, it's the wattage. I've heard some 10's that sound like 15's. Just depends on the sub and amp combo.

Eclipse CD5442
Looks are not that great, but the sound quality kicks with it's 5V pre-out.
There is alot of excellent features on this deck for a reasonable price.
Just my opinion...........check it out yourself.

sadboy, your attitude here and in other recent topics makes me sad as well.

I can totally understand yoru dislike for eclipse. im not a big fan of alpine, tho it has a following of so many people.

the question you and everyone else should ask is "so what?"

Posts like this and others here turn this into a very negative forum. I dont think anyone here will be helped by any sort of negativity. its coulter productive. This forum exists as a support for other civic drivers, to educate some, help others, to find other people who are as interested in their hobbies as you are.

This is not a bag on eclipse forum. This is not a bag on Alpine forum. When i see others posting about alpine, i keep my mouth shut. theres nothing that i would have to say that could possibly help. if they want to run alpine, i cant hear it from my house, so if they like it, who am i to tell them they are making a brand mistake? its not my place.

Nor is it your place to tell anyone here that eclipse "sucks." If you doubt eclipses abilities to put out some serious SPL, If you doubt how clean and clear eclipse speakers can be, If you doubt the amazing technology in eclipse amplifiers, if you think that eclipse is anything but outstanding equipment, you admit you dont know a thing about audio.

If you want to talk about how eclipse is way wya overpriced, if you want to talk about other speakers that perform equally for less money, if you want to debate system requirements and how well eclipse will or will not fit into those requirements, if you want to talk about how YOU THINK eclipse sounds anything less than ideal, thats up to you. But this is my request to you, and to all others here who took the time to read this:

Please, if you dont like a product, dont say it. let them run it. its not your money, not your system, let meople make their own mistakes.

If they ask for install help, dont refuse it and tell them that eclipse merely "sucks." why not help them install it to the best of yoru abilities? if your abilities are inadequate (much like mine when people ask how to make trim rings for 6.5's or what the best box size for boston or audiobahn subwoofers) then simply dont post there. wait for something to come up that matters, where your input would not only be useful, but valued as well.

Lets turn 7thgencivic.com into a positive forum, not just another blah blah civic site where people talk trash about other cars, and other products, and talk abotu how much they hate something, or how much somthing is no good!

Here is a story for you: I recently did an install for my friends brother. He decided he wanted to buy comp VRs because frys was giving a killer deal on them. I would never run comp VR's, i hate those things. we couldnt get them to sound good in my buddies integ, what hope did he have? but who am i to tell him that kicker sucks, that he should spend it elsewhere? He came to ME for HELP. I put the comp VR in his car using factory reccommended box volumes, and did MY BEST to make sure he got the best performance that I could help him achieve.

It does no one any good to be so negative, and defend it to the tooth. And i never go to best buy or CC just to laugh at teh products or the employees. its rude and rediculous. My time is worth more to me than to waste it belittling other people. Belittling other products. I am above that.

And if you are really dedicated to our hobby, if you really enjoy what you do, sadboy, youll realize yoru above that kind of base behavior too.

size has nothing to do with volume. my HCCA 10 will get louder than say a jl15w0. where is the volume advantage in that?

When picking a sub, priority #1 is sound. do you like the way it sounds? best way to tell is with an in car test, tho thats not always possible, i digress.

lets say you cant get any listening time in. there are PLENTY of other factors. you want to get teh most out of yoru woofer, right? I know I do. so check it out:

how much space are you willing to give up? the more space, the more options you have. I think this is the largest factor when choosing a subwoofer, persoanlly. the box makes the woofer, not even teh other way around.

how loud do you want to get? once you have a subwoofer or list that you like, you got options. multiple entrylevel woofers to acheve the vomume you want? (like 3 shivas for example) or will just one do? (like a single HCCA for example)

so you have a list of potential subwoofers, each with the number you need to get the volume you desire. your gonna have some low numbers if yoru worried about getting too loud. now cost is a huge factor as well! which is gonna cost you more? how much power will you need? what kind of materials are you going to need for your box? a 12w7 would be more ideal with 1" mdf, if you like that above the shiva, it would be best to buy more expensive wood......

and finally, weight. SOME people make weight a HUGE factor in system design and planning. can you achieve the same effect you want by going with 8's or even some burly 6.5's? that would cut the weight down, for sure

now that you have yoru sub picked out, you should look into amplifiers. those drivers are gonna need a good amount of power to get going, possibly, you want to taylor your power for your woofer choice.

so: will 2 12's be too much? will one 10 be too little? too much? will the right 10 give you the sound you want? I dont have enough information to answer those questions. lemme know the answers to some of mine, and we can start to work out a list of possible woofers that would work well for you. think of the first question as your musical tastes, and we cna work out a frequency range that will be best for you.

If thats all, unless your opinions are positive, i think you need to keep your opinions to yourself. because negative opinions help noone.

BTW, you claimed to work at an audio shop in sacramento. what shop was that again? I missed the name.

There are several SQ World Champions in both IASCA & USAC that use Alpine, Eclipse, Kicker, and Q-Forms just to name a few brands/products that have been slammed on here. To say that any of these "suck" is being pretty ignorant. The same goes for speaker recommendations. Some may think it is impressive to read all the technical posts on what this speaker does or how much it costs but bottom line is how does it sound to you. I've heard several $10-$20,000 installs that I thought sounded pretty lame. They looked absolutely incredible but in my opinion didn't sound good at all. One of the best sounding systems I have ever heard was in a Toyota Tacoma pickup with Rockford amps, two 8" JL Audio 8IB4 subs, SONY head unit, and some midline MB Quart comps up front. Mids in the doors, subs in the back, and tweets in the kickpanels. He spent around $1,500.00 for everything. That was one of the most exciting sounding systems I have ever heard. Everything just clicked and worked perfectly well together. It's good to read these posts and pick up pointers, find out was equipment is reliable, how the customer srevice is, get install tips, but don't ever take literally someone's opinion on a brand name or on how something sounds. Go hear it for yourself. The worst mistake you can make in putting your system together is to build it to sound like what someone else tells you it should. Make it sound good to you first. Music should be a very personal experience and joy, design your system to make you feel good when you hear it.
