got my comps.. now what kinda amp?
Hello,
I just got my components and 6 x 9's... (comps: Alpine SPR-176A... 6x9: Alpine SPR-694A)
2 questions:
Should i get two 2-channel amps or one 4-channel amp? and which do you recommend? (i would like to run them powerful but still clean)
2nd question:
At how many hertz should i cross them over?
(technically those were 3 question -_-)

Well generally 4 channel amps have 1 Highpass filter..and one low pass filter..So you'd be able to highpass your fronts (70-90hz) depending on the set you have and how loud you listen to it..
For the rears, unless you find an amp with a HP and LP filters on each end, you'd need to use you HU's High Pass filter, or get a Bass Blocker,,(small capacitor) and wire it inline with your rear speakers..preferably one tuned to highpass at 90Hz at a 6db(or12)/octave for the rears.
Two 2 channel amps will give you more flexibility but to run the same power would generally cost more. If you want the pretty much highest quality 4-channel amp that's still somewhat reasonable in price you might want to look into the Arc Audio 4150CXL-R ..it's fully microprocessor controlled and many top SQ competitors went out and bought one as soon as they heard one..
like Rick McCallum, Leon Shing, Mark Bruno, Matt (Idteg on sounddomain forum)...they are very awesome amps..

I personaly love PPI for highs....Phoenix Gold is pretty good too, although a little overpriced. The PCX480 has two crossover settings, as does the PCX4125....I'm not sure about the PCX440.....
The PCX amps have crossover controls for all four channels, and the preouts....seriously awesome amps......www.buyloud.com has good prices on them if you want em from the web.

anything under .5% distortion is virtually inadible...there are more factors to amp than it's THD..such as signal to Noise ratio, Damping factor, resistances on the board..
