As far as i see Metra DOES NOT make a double din kit for our cars. I am having the same problems as most others. I have two din sized radios and I want to convert the one din to two. If anyone has ACTUALLY done this PLEASE let me know I need pictures as a guide. THanks
I saw some cheap ones on Ebay. I don't know if they're the right ones to serve your purpose:

Just looked up keywords "civic dash kit" and had to look through all the other trim kits to get to find it... I'm sure there's more out there.

Also, I found this somewhere else in the forums:

I thought the other part was a pocket that could come out, becoming a 2 din. Am I mistaken? Isn't that how you make it a 2 din in most dash kits? Except that in most others, it's just a flat panel... this one is a little more useful and has a pocket... no?
i used mar-glass for the large gaps....here are the steps i took
1. trace old instal kit onto 1/2 inch wood and cut it out, make sure it fits in the old hole
2. double side tape 1/4 abs plastic to the wood and router it so you have that same piece out of plastic now
3. measure size of radio so you know how big to cut the hole for the deck (i had a template for this thanks to RTTI)
4. double side tape the template to the abs, being sure its in the right spot in relation to the iso mount of the radio...if the hole is off nothing will line up
5. take it over to the pin router and cut the openings.
6. clamp your new routered abs plastic piece into the hole that once held your instal kit.
7. glue the plastic in using 2 part epoxy ( i used hot stuff found at www.installedge.com)
8. fill in gap using marglass and sand smooth.
9. primer, sand, fill in any pin holes with bondo
10. sand, sand, sand repeat then prime and paint.
it hink thats about it....im pretty tired and did that from memory..ill edit it or answer any questions.

Sounds like you did a good job, if i paid you, would you be interested in doing it to mine, i would ship you my piece, and pay to get it shipped back? Im at school and have no resources to get it done, and all the shops here are clueless.
same situation with me, I'd deffinately pay for a job like that to my dash. Tweeter was dumbfounded about doing this kind of job, and said that any attempt would cost upward of 300 bucks..
well i dont have access to any of the tools...sorry guys.
its a one off piece because just the rockford face will show thru so if you had an alpine there might be a big gap. i would need both units, your dash and the metal part the headunit mounts to. make a custom mount to put them where i want em then router out a hole the size of your particular equipment. $300 sounds resonalble since it took me about 7-10 hours before i even primered it.

It should cost anywhere between 200-300 bucks to have something like that made.
Question:
So you created a new one out of ABS, not modified an existing one? If so, where'd you get the ABS for it? Do they just sell it? How much? And how would you get it to curve the way you needed?
If you modified it, I guess that would sound simpler, but I'm still not sure (even with the steps listed... guess I'm dense).
And why don't they sell the trim for the lower pocket? If there are so many Civics out there, don't you think they'd have an accessory like this? It's so lame....

I did the same thing Alex053 did, but just a little different. From what I can see from his picture the whole piece is flat my dash actually curves to the shape of the radio and EQ but used the same steps he did, I'll post some pictures tonight so you can see
biohazard: you can get abs at most home depots or stores that are similar to that. the shop i did it has everything on hand (its where they build the demo cars for rockford fosgate) you cant modify the existing piece doesnt have a large enuff opening and you would do more work cutting out the pocket and trying to cut that opening to fit...easier to make a new piece.
CantSeeMe: my piece curves also. Thats why i used 1/4 inch so that i could clamp it in the place of the facotry opening and it would follow the same curve. i would love to see pics of yours. every pic i see it looks unfinished but you have an awesome system.
