JBL 1200.1 Ohm question
I don't know if anyone would know this, but will a JBL 1200.1 be able to handle running 4 Shivas running at 1 ohm (in paralell (sp))?
Actually... those JBL mono sub amps were built so they can take 1 ohm loads. The way you wire your subs determines what ohm load you run. You want to run it at 1 ohm so you can use that amp to its fullest potential. At 1 ohm it'll run 1200 watts x 1. With 4 subs that should be just right.

No, the JBL 1200.1 is one ohm stable according to the manual. Check JBL's Website. There is no power gain, but it says that it will work at 1 or 2 ohms.
I just want to know that if this amp is truely one ohm stable will it be able to handle 4 four ohm Shivas? I am not sure if the subs are really four ohms, and if they are a lil under will it be ok
Thanks for the input though

puts out max power at 2ohms..but can be used on a 1ohm load safely at no gain in power.....the 1200.1 is strictly 2ohm Thread Starter

Mo, read the manual here: JBL Manny. Don't just look at the page that lists the features. It says 1200 watts at 2 ohms as a key feature because that is unussual to have full power at 2 ohms for a class D amp, but if you check thoroughly you will see that it is indeed one ohm stable with no power increase. If you were in LA I would be willing to wager two Shiva's that it is a one ohm stable amp against something of yours.
Trust me I have the manual and it is 1 ohm stable.
Anyways, just pretend that it is one ohm stable for curiosity's sake, since i can't convince you. If this is the case can it handle the 4 Shiva load? Are the Shiva's truely 4 ohms wired in parellel is basically my question, and if the amp can handle it if it dips a lil below one ohm?
Oh, and there was a goofy a$$ orange sticker on the amp that said something about slammin

mr fonto is correct... on the manual it states "max power to be 1200rms@2 ohms", but, on the place where its says the lowest amount of ohms stable it says 1, with an asterisk next to it, and down on the bottom, the footnote claims that there is no power gain between 1 and 2 ohms on the amp, but that it is 1 ohm stable
ive competed with my amp pushing 1 ohm load into 4 kenwood 12's. ive also given shivas everything from 85 rms to 600 rms. they would slam with 300 each, 1200 @ 12 volts across 4. efficient woofers, igf you box is big enough. in our civics 1.8 sealed each is the magic number.
the SQ would be great and the spl would be nuts. one shiva on 255 rms is fairly decent in our cars. 4 off 300 each? that would be a cute little system

I will have them in 1.4 cubic foot chambers moderatly stuffed with poly. I wish 1.8 per, but I am barelly going to be able to fit the four as it is, so i hope the 1.4 sounds good. I had written to adire to ask what box size I should have and they suggested 1.4 per, but I know that for better sq I will need a bigger box. I will test it out and see how it sounds. I have two in my ride right now and they sound niiice

ive never dont 1.4 to be honest, but 1.0 sounded like garbage in my car, and 1.8 sounded crisp and clear. this is with no stuffing, however.
if the shiva is anything like my midranges, your gonna have to stuff the bejesus out of that box. lemem know how it sounds, id be curious
