bad ground=noise?
Yes it can. an amp can use the rca jack ground to turn on and even play. If the ground is lose it will pick up noise or if it near something noisy. I find that alot of hi power aftermarket headunits will have engine noise if they are grounded in the harness. I always run the ground to the chassis. Another common noise problem is the gain being to high. turn it down and give it more signal (volume) from you headunit.

im running a line converter(yeah i know i know) and i have power and leads going straight through the middle of the car...i had posted this already but now since i moved all the speaker wires to the driver side im still getting a little whine from the speaks...i have it grounded to the spare tire bolt thingy in the trunk....also...can nearby power wires from lights\power sources cause noise to be picked up by the line converter cables ? You're power wire should be ran on one side and the RCA's and lead should go on the other. When you have signal travelling through the RCA's a 12V constant can cause the road noise. But it usually doesn't make a difference unless there is a high amount of current. The RCAs can ground themselves, but most amps have circuitry as to not allow it to ground, so I know at least mine won't turn on if the amp is grounded correctly.

RCA's AND amp turn on LEAD on the same side andyman97? i thought all power wires(power, ground, remote turn on leads) go on one side and all signal wires on the opposite ?

can the output speakwe wire being to close to power wire also cause this whine ? i know the RCA's would...cause on my amp the strip row of wire outputs is right next to the power\ground inputs

I had the infamous engine whine problem for the longest time (if you do a search you will probably find posts of me whining about it).
I did everything, and checked everything...and this is how I got rid of mine...I jiggled the wiring around behind the radio and it went away when I stuffed the wiring in a certain way. Someone on the board recommended this to me and it work
Oh, and speaker wires can run with the Power wires, but not the RCAs
