where's my antenna amp?
I'm having reception issues, and I've seen a few posts about checking the connection to the antenna amp in the c pillar (between rear window and small backseat window). Well, I opened up the passenger side c pillar last night ('01 sedan) and couldn't find any antenna anp. I saw where what I think was the antenna wire was running up through that area, but not connecting to anything. Then I thought I might have opened the wrong c pillar, so I checked the driver-side c pillar... nope, not there either. Am I looking in totally the wrong place?

I get horrible reception too, especially when I am in grid lock traffic (which is every day in LA).
Anyway, I believe the actual antenna amp was on the radio itself. Once you take out the stock radio you virtually lose all AM reception
One thing that you may want to check is to see if all of the atenna connections are still together properly. The three connecting points that I have seen so far are: behind the radio (ofcoarse), in the passengers kick pannel, and in the back side passengers pannel. I would check these to see that no wires are lose. I need to check mine too because I have been getting bad reception lately!
edit: that wire that you say is loose in the C pannel should be connected...when you do that you will get your reception back

The weird think about this situation is that I had great reception with the old and the new HU. My reception just got bad all of a sudden, which made me think that maybe something came loose. Something else weird is that I have good reception if the car has been off for a while. I'll have my normal good reception back for about 30 seconds to a minute and then I loose it again.

Alright Let me take to antenna school for a bit
First anytime you change any factory radio reception is lost! Sucks dosent it? Some cars worst then other's. All this is the resault of resistance changes in the vehicle and antenna (short way of saying it without getting techincal) now our cars do have an antenna amplifier and can simply be turned on by putting power to the wire on the factory radio harness when your radio is turned on. The wire should be a Yellow/Green wire.
