theres a little screw on the side of the terminal on the post. just untighten it a little and pull the wire off. i believe taking off the negative is fine.

installing a HU...
buy a harness...around $15?
maybe invest in an installation kit which will make the HU fit and look better
with the harness just match up the colors of the wires and use butt connectors. or elec. tape if u want

ya its best to have a harness and installation kit... fairly simple.. just get the harness you bought that connects to your civic's and the harness from your headunit. just match the colors and tie the wires together. i did it the ghetto way. twisted the wires together and put electrical tape. theres alot of different ways but basic thing is just getting the two wires to touch.

metra kit is the installation kit thing. its so that your headunit could fit flush against the dash. i think schoche is another company that makes them.

jus pull the ***** off...
the last pic in the DIY shows the connectors that plug into the climate control ***** that you pulled off.

i got my kit from BB also and it looks OEM, while fitting the DIN HU with ease and nice snug.
a friend of mine paid to get his done and they used some other brand of kit. his looks funky and the lower pocket ended up being 1/2 the size of original.

u wont blow a fuse...the whole console is connected using harnesses...
so you unplug the antenna, radio harness, A/C harness, climate control harness, and hazard button harness...i dont remember if theres any more than that...jus pull them all off...u wont have to figure which goes where cause they onlie fit in one place.

If you want to do a really professional wiring job that won't give you problems in the future, try this:
Before taking the dash apart, get the wiring adapter and the radio. After you figure out which wires to connect, put on a small length of heatshrink tubing over one of the two wires. Twist the wires together and use a soldering gun and solder to make it a permanent connection. Then slide the tubing down over the connection and heat it up with a cigarette lighter until it shrinks. Don't burn it too long or it'll open up and tear.

This method is much better than using electrical tape. Eventually the tape will unravel and leave a sticky mess. The worst that can happen is it could come off and short out on something in the dash. By the time you smell the burnt wires, it's probably too late!

Its very simple. Once you have pried out the piece right above the console, it has the ac output, there are two 10 mm bolts on a piece of metal that you can't see, you need to get down and look upwards at it. I promise you will see them. All you do is take a deep 10 mm socket and take them out. Then you should be able to just push upwards on that same metal piece and your trim panel should pop right off. Give it a try.

You shouldn't, what year and model is your car....better yet, do you have a cover for your cupholders, or is it just open...I don't think it should matter either way to tell you the truth, but if you already got the a/c trim piece off, all you have to do is push up on the metal piece from underneath and it will pop right out...no need to remove the console.

No, No, No...don't yank on anything!!! Once you have removed the two bolts, the metal piece that they screw into is what you push, but you push from underneath upwards towards the ceiling. That will pop the trim panel that holds the h/u out.

you have a 2k2 but no cup holder cover? thats weird, anyways...

you know where the cigarrette lighter is right? you have to pull that off. some pulled it off without removing the center console but i couldnt so i just took the center console off and popped it off from there. after that you should be able to find the two bolts. then you can remove the whole trim peice by either pushing/pulling.

With or without the cupholder cover, you should be able to pry the trim piece w/the cigarette lighter right off. It should pop right out, no problem. As far as wiring goes, I would not just tape it! This can cause major problems. You need to learn how to solder and use heat shrink tubing, not tape. Tape will come unraveled over time, especially if you don't know what you are doing. Use solder and shrink tubing and you should be just fine. If you don't know how to solder, find someone who does, cuz this is what is going to hold the connection....unless you want to have to redo it again in a few weeks, if not sooner.

Yeah, mine have been taped for over a year as well, but I have done this before, as I am pretty sure you have too! But I just think it would be better for someone who doesn't know what they are doing, ya know?
