Are SONY HU really that bad?
I haven't heard anything good about them after reading almost all of the post here.
Alot of people are going with the pioneer but it seems a bit pricey =(

well some of their HU's are allright.. but none of them are cheap.. the ES line and up are allright but are still prone to CD ejection problems..
If your looking for an inexpensive quality solution.. you might want to look into Panasonic their HU's are pretty good and are feature packed for their price..

My Sony was that bad. It skipped to no end and wouldn't play half my CDs. It worked flawlessly for about a year, then it went downhill. I could never see the screen in daylight though.
not being bale to see the screen is not a sony proble, its a standard issue for all HUs regardless of company. i've had two sony HUs and they all work fine. they do skip but only after kitting pit potholes or bumps, which is quite commom for all HUs. i dont know why ppl ragging on sony so much. i personally think they are pretty good.
Sony....heh. Mediocre product, would not purchase. Personally, I would buy nothing less than Alpine. Their new v-drive built in amps are the win. CDA 7893 is the model number I have. Featured loaded and the best power output of any player out there!
a friend of mine just got sony's CDX-MP70 HU. So far, it hasn't skipped once, because of sony's G-Protection technology. It's actually pretty good HU in my opinion, BUT i'd rather get the Alpine CDA7893. I just really like alpine =D

I had my M750 in a 4x4 turck with bad shocks, never skipped and I work in the city with potholes. YOu have to make sure it is mounted right, cage alone is not a great way to mount a head unti. I would iso mount it and that way you can bolt the cd player to teh back strap and rebolt that below the head unti liek teh factory one, that si what I did with the Alpine I put in.

I have a Pioneer 7" LCD with built in DVD/CD player. Completely motorized, detatchable buttons. The amp sits in the trunk with the Pioneer 9000R unit (Built in Dolby Digital/DTS, 45x4 Watts, RGB in/out, support for navigation and AV ins and outs. I kept the stock internals, they sound awesome with this unit (I did add a small center channel however, it came with the unit. I use a Rockford Fosgate 300s bridge into one 12" HE sub from Rockford. Im upgraded to either an HE2 or HX2, more excursion . I swear by pioneer. Had a shitty deck for while so i could save (1300, bottom of the line pioneer) but i still loved it. My mom has a M600 Sony in her camry. About 3 years old, not one problem or cleaning since. Guess they're pretty good too.
till I took it out a few weeks ago (to sell it) my pioneer deh-p7300 never skipped once. Even when I jumped a curb when I had it in my old car. And when I had it in my 2002 Civic LX and I was learning to drive a stick. The sony I had on the other hand...
constantly skipped from the smallest crack in the road.. even when my AUTOMATIC transmission shifted.. it skipped. didn't play half my CDs.. then when I put the subs in the interior speakers would randomly cut out.. leaving only the subs playing for a few seconds at a time. sony = s h i t

Uh, did you ever think to send it in to have replaced, sounds liek you had a faulty unit. Do you thkn Sony coudl put out somethign that bad that skipped when a transmission shifted and still be in business. Even the best equipment can be defective.

maybe the older sony HU's were pretty garbage..... but i think the new ones r pretty sweet now..... i really like mine.... a real good choice... the DSO technology that sony uses is great.... makes a 4 speaker system sound like its got a pair of tweeters.....
the lower end sony stuff is usually garbage and don't look all that nice..... i guess its just like the phase you pay for what u get.....
