Hardwiring accessories
I'm wanting to hardwire in various interior accessories into my car. They all run off the the 12V's. Basically, I want to wire all these a custom-made control panel. However, I'm wondering what the best way to hardwire into the accessory socket is. I want to leave the socket open (I don't want to use splitters). So, should I wire through the stock fuses or should I splice into the wires on the console? Any suggestions? Thanks guys.
Use a 12V relay.
Hook it up to the 12V trigger of the deck, hit a cheap dist block, and wire up as many acc as you want.
If you need more info let me know, I can whip up a little diagram or something.
I did that in my car, I have 3 neons that turn on automatically whenever the HU turns on.
You can also have it turn on whenever the car itself is on.

Try this ....
I also put on pics of what I used as a distrobution block. It obviously wouldn't work for amps, but for accessories it works quite nicely.

Thanks Joe. It sounds great. Got a got a couple questions:
a) Doesn't this mean the stock socket will be filled?
b) How much are the 12V relays? How big are they?
c) Is a distribution block just like a chunk of metal that splits the current to the accessories?
d) Did you throw on an extra fuse anywhere or are you just using the stock fuse?
e) Do you just ground into the frame of the car?
f) Is the Deck the switch to turn the relay on and off?
g) Don't you need an alternator to run a PS2 and a TV?
Hm, I guess I had lots of questions... But thanks again. If I ever get this into my car, I'll put some pics up!
PS. Do you think I should get blue lights (I got the eternal pearl blue) or blacklights in my car. I got a beige interior...
THANKS AGAIN!!!

Nope, go right from the battery direct so it leaves it free to say .... charge the cell phone.
b) How much are the 12V relays? How big are they?
Like $2, if that. Generally square, about the size of a quarter.
c) Is a distribution block just like a chunk of metal that splits the current to the accessories?
Ya, but for a bunch of low power accessories like this I used a bus strip w/ jumpers. I included 2 pics on the post w/ the diagram. Cut the jumper in half and put it down one side of the bus strip. Hook up things to the other side.
d) Did you throw on an extra fuse anywhere or are you just using the stock fuse?
Put in a fuse right by the battery, within a foot or so.
e) Do you just ground into the frame of the car?
Yup, make sure its secured really well and ground nice and clean. If not it could promote altenator buzz in the system.
f) Is the Deck the switch to turn the relay on and off?
Your deck is run off a 12V remote wire that turns on when the car is turned on.
Your deck then outputs another 12V remote thats only on when the deck is on.
You choose the one you want.
Either on with the car, or on with the radio. I used the radio one.
g) Don't you need an alternator to run a PS2 and a TV?
You would technically need a 12V DC to 120V AC converter to run those. But the converter could be powered from the same block as everything else.
Hope that helps.

Sweet! Thanks for all the help Joe! I'll try to put it together soon (maybe this weekend). If I get it up, I'll post some pics! Just one more question. How (or what's the best way) do you connect straight to the battery? Any special part or methods? Sorry for askin so much. I'm just scared to death that I'll screw up my car somehow. Hey, I like your rims. Know where I could get a set?

The rims are factory . ..... see the H emblem on em.
Connect to the battery with a regualr round connector. Radio Shack should have everything you need.
Something like this ... but fits on the battery terminal. Catalog Number: 64-3040
