I had actually planned to do this as well. I don't think it would be hard to do. However, I noticed that tall drinks would cover up the display and most likely scratch it. I always have a drink with me so I have decided aganst it for now.

I still think it would be very easy to do though. Plus, with the stock hu up top, nobody would ever think you have anything in the car.

you could do it the ghetto way, straight cutting and jam it in there,
i thinkk theres some metal things down there though...
if i was to do it i would probably attempt to do it with fiberglass...
if i was a badass i would probably glass it and find a way to finish it to look like the stock dash...
but since im not, i would probably try the carbon fiber thing.

good luck. pull your radio out, then pull the cig lighter panel out, then try to fir the radio back there, and youll se just what kind of fun fabrication work youll get to involve yourself with.

i dont think even grey or myself would be that crazy.......

I wouldn't trust myself to do it .. I'd try to get best buy or a car audio place to do it .. but I'd want to put something else where the old hu would be to.. like a eq or something... maybe the oem in dash changer..

the area where the cupholders are looks more feasible if you dont mind getting rid of those

i would like to retract my statement about doing it by the cupholder... hehehe
i was sitting outside smoking a cigarette and i decided to pull my center console apart real quick, yeah, it isnt happening... lots of metal down there... youre basically stuck with the glovebox, the dash, and whiterabbit's area... or the door pocket, or you can just put the whole HU in a plastic of fiberglass box and have it sit around anywhere you want it, kinda reminiscent of the box used for the buttons for a hydraulic suspension... basically, you can do it anywhere except there, unless you want to glass a space for it that makes the HU stick out a few inches, so you really wont have to use the area that goes back there...

oooo map pocket would be a SWEET place for a radio.... your passengers lose all ability to even see it and itll skip every time you shut the door....

but it would work, and be really neat. and it IS possible to cram a pair of RCA's through that grommet

I could see you harming the HU, just by continued shutting of the door, if you put it in the map pockets. I think the best place is beside the e-brake. But, even there it would be even harder to see while driving. My idea would be to relocate the HU beside the ebrake and the faceplate in the area of the ashtray. That way you could just pop a cd in to hu and control it with the faceplate in the dash. It would be great if you could keep that little sliding door beside the e-brake to keep dirt and dust off your HU. But, i don't want to push it. What do you guys think.

well, that apparently was trash talking by lud and me so many months ago. shortly after this topic, I actually moved my radio to the center console in a cusom built carbon fiber panel, and it worked wonderfully well.

But I lost points at SQ competition for "poor ergonomics." Meanwhile I and others started experimenting putting the radio where the cig lighter is. its totally possible, with a nice angle up, it fits wonderfully well, although the panel is very very difficult to build to get the stock clips to fit back in.

My radio is currently where the cig lighter was. I had ot sacrifice my drinkholders, I can only fit a can of sode in one now, rather than a big gulp.

As to the location of the cig lighter port itse,f I put it in the center console in the large square change tray, flanked by each power window switch.

some crappy pics of my half complete work:

here the radio was by the e-brake. I liked it, and I didnt need a remote. but I lost points at show

so i moved it to the cigarette lighter location

no need to mention the carpet, itll work eventually, but I know it looks like *** right now compared to the plastic dash.

what doesnt look like *** is the finished cig lighter relocation

i think it turned out rather well, and my power windows are still very accessible

This is old thread.
Anyways, I just installed s2000 start button where cig plug was.

How would i go about extending wire harness for cig plug.
I kinda like where you put cig plug on center console.
Wires are really messy right now. I bascially tapped all wires to cig plug wires.
Volt gauge and s2000 start button.

its jsut two wires, 16 gauge speaker wire will work plenty well. T-tap into teh existing harness, and female spades fit into the stock cig lighter plug ports on the back.

done! put it anywhere

or daisychain them up without the lame looking adapters, and put them everywhere, front and back

How hard would it be to get a good stereo install place to relocate a faceplate. Do you think it would be really hard to do, that is if you know electronics.

huh? where did you get this from?

any ways, i suggest if this headunit has a detachable face, that you get the wires that the face hooks upto and just put that there(the mounting for the face), and wire the headunit some where else, like under ur seats so you could put the cds in. it takes some skillz with wiring, but i would do that if i were you...

because there is no room back there to not block ur drinks. there is a metal wall right behind that peice
