Building a box
I didn't have a table saw, and my first box didn't come out as well as i hoped using a jigsaw without a guide.
What I did was went to lowes and had them cut out the mdf for me. $.25 a cut and they were straighter than i could ever do. A jigsaw with a guie shouhld be just a good, a little more difficult though.
I used Liquid Nails, Screws, Drill, Countersinking bit for fun. It's rpetty straight forward. I got a termal cup from radio shack (remember to seal all around that thing on the inside, I had mad air leaks on it) and cut it out wiht a jigsaw.
are you making a sealed or other box?

Thanks for the replies!
I will most likely make a sealed box for my gfs car for 10s. I am just wondering is it cheaper to buy a box or make one myself? I would have to buy the saws and everything after that should be cheap. I also don't have a garage, so I would probably need to do it all in my kitchen
Are there any brand saws that you would recommend? Would the jigsaw be for cutting strait lines, and the table saw for cutting the circles?
Is this stuff that is possible for a person like me who has never worked with any type of saw before besides a dremel?

First off .... your icon kills me, those ears are so damn funny.
A key thing is you will need a drill in order to use the jigsaw the way you intend to.
Table Saw
- staight cuts only
- imbedded in a table
- cheapest I have seen is $120 and up to thousands
Skill Saw
- got one last weekend at Sears for $29.99 on sale
- makes straight cuts only
- hand held
Jig Saw
- cuts shapes, round holes, etc ....
- wouldn't use it for straight cuts
- hand held
- $30
Drill
- approx $30
If you don't have a garage .... where are you going to store all these tools if you did buy them.
Sometimes its just easier to buy a premade box ... and less dangerous for inexperienced people.

if your looking for a custom look for your trunk then go for it. but be very carefully when cutting pre fit every single piece to make sure the fit is right. I built three different custom boxes for my previous hondas and i can tell you it's no easy pinic. a premade box will save you alot of time and chances of a flucked up looking box. my first box came out horrible the bass from the subs cracked the seals and the back panel lol so take the chance if you dare, and good luck my man

I'll just go with the boxes I have for her already...I have some q-logic truck boxes that I will have to lay flat in the trunk with the subs firing up. My concern is that the terminals will be on the floor after all of the power steering fluid has spilled in her trunk. Hopefully I can clean it good enough. I wonder if there is a spark if the whole car will go BOOM!

fonto, buy the tools if you plan to make many boxes in the future...
if not, try borrowing them, its a good skill to know how to work with that stuff, because one ay youll get a crazy idea and wanna do it, thats how my trunk started... i was bored over summer
if not borrow, you could always rent them too
you could do it with a table saw, a jigsaw, and a drill... a drill and a jigsaw are easily borrowed, or ask someone you know whos parents are contractors or somehting, or someone who is a contractor...
it is cheap though.... my full trunk cost me :
4x8 sheet of .75" mdf : 19.99
box o screws : 3.00
2 tubes of silicon (youll only need 1) : 4.00 each
you could easily get away with buying a 4x4 sheet of mdf if they have it, prolly 10-15 bucks....
what would I do? i'd build it just to learn how

Just an idea. My brother bought subs off a guy who had 4 - 10's in a square box firing up in a hatchback. Of course he didn't have a hatchback and in the trunk it sounded like @ss. Rattled the trunk lid more than anything. He placed down a couple 2x4's and flipped the box over so it was firing down. Now it fired into the frame of the car. Damn what an improvement. Shook the whole car so damn hard. I would say firing up would be the last way you wanna face them unless its a hatchback.

Hmmm, I gotta think about what I wanna do. I have decent boxes for the mean time.
I sa a table say for 99 at home depot.com, and jigsaws are cheap. I have all of the other tools including a drill and dremel that I may need for drilling holes or sanding edges.
Thanks for the help...just have to decide if it is worth turning my kitchen into a wood shop!!!
