Box Building Help
I want to build a ported box for my subs. I got winsid and put in the t/s for my woofer. Ok so basically I have a 4 cf box with a 4 in diameter 6.10 in port (Circular). The optimum Box specs have it with the height and width being long and the depth being small. I was just wondering is it better for the box to be deeper, or is the way it has it better? Also, where is the best place to put this port?

I would think that the best place to put the port is facing the same way as you subs, or maybe facing directly back if you have the subs pushed against the trunks hatch.

I was just thinking, I'm going to get rid of the 6x9's and get a good component set. Could I port the subs up through the 6x9's hole and let it bounce of the back window? Also, when tuning, it says 6.10 in for one port at 30 hz. If i have the port extending out above the box does this count towards the port lenght? I'm guessing it does, which would be good cause i think 2 ports bumps up the distant to like 15 in.
best bet is to port the same plane as yoru woofers. box dimensions more often than not dont make a difference. its a good idea to have at least an inch or two of clearance behind the vent pole (hole in the magnet) to the woofer breathe. its probably how the voice coils cool.
and i havent heardd of one person who was happy with they way their box sounded ported through the rear deck. doesnt really matter anyways, your torsion bars are in teh way.

what does MECP have to say about WHY taht 4-6 inch rule exists? or like most "rules" of caraudio, is it unexplained, have to be accepted on faith like jesus, and like jesus, possibly full of poop?

I actually have my ports facing strait up towards where the holes are from where my 6 by 9s used to be (Q-Logic pre-fab box). The only problem is that my back dash rattles, but I am working on fixing that.

I had a friend who has his ported through his cack dask and it sounds amazing, and his system is set up for SPL too! He doesn't have a civic though...and he had to cut the holes in the metal for the ports to come through.
